People praise his commentary because they heard what he's caple of in NXT without Vinny Mac and Bucky screaming in his ear to plug this and that and say whatever ridiculous phrase they're focusing on for the month, so people are naturally going to be forgiving of him when the difference in quality drops immediately between NXT and Raw. Cole on the other hand has never been in an environment where he's been able to show whatever chops he has as an actual commentator and not a salesman.
Point is, JR is the GOAT for having to plug and push all the stupid shit and still coming off as completely credible, genuine, and believable.

I love when people shit on announcers like JBL for not being consistent with praising faces or heels but completely ignore it when Corey does it. He also had the honor of saying that "FANS ARE WACKY THEY CHEER THE GUYS THEY NORMALLY BOO AND BOO THE GUYS THEY CHEER" line post-Mania this year. He's being molded into the next Michael Cole.

With Graves, it feels consistent to his character. He praises faces like Gentleman Jack Gallagher and heels like Rusev and Lana or Miz and Maryse. He hates faces like Enzo and New Day and hates heels like The Drifter.

He's a posh yuppie poser who loves white-collar characters and hates blue-collar characters. It's delightful.
