2009 WON awards

2 million viewers on Spike TV with way less budget than SmackDown currently has who also do around 2 million viewers now.

TNA was awesome in 2009. If you were watching PG WWE at the time instead truly feel sorry for you.

The TNA Impact episode based around the Kurt Angle vs. Sting empty arena match (which peaked at a 1.45 rating and 2.1 million viewers) was, by far, the most successful show in company history, well up from normal levels in every demo, setting records in most. Its biggest success was among male teenagers, where the show did a 1.52 rating.

Overall the show did a 1.33 rating and 1.9 million viewers. The show did a 1.02 in Males 18-34 and 0.98 in Males 35-49, and 0.50 in Women 18-49, all well above usual levels.

The show opened strong with a 1.24 first quarter, well above usual levels, so whether it’s weak opposition or more curiosity stemming from the finish of last week’s show (both played a factor but I’d credit the latter more), they had a good base to start with. Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley vs. Jay Lethal & Consequences Creed in a street fight gained as well as a backstage Mafia interview gained 57,000 viewers.

Interview segments with Beer Money issuing the challenge, Taylor Wilde & Roxxi and Governor Palin and Dr. Stevie segments saw the audience stay even.

LAX & Shane Sewell vs. Brutus Magnus & Matt Morgan & Sheik Abdul Bashir, an interview segment with Mick Foley and a backstage segment with Scott Steiner lost 43,000 viewers. Taylor Wilde vs. Angelina Love and a Sting interview gained 29,000 viewers. Beer Money vs. Eric Young & Petey Williams in the title vs. leaving town match gained 57,000 viewers. The strength was the main event, and with TNA, they usually lose viewers in the final segment even with big name matches and show long build. But this segment gained 200,000 viewers.

Like this is too obvious that you are a redditor. The style of writing, that fucking exclamation mark...

You don't know shit and only repeating what other morons said. TNA was great till 2012-2013. They went to shit once Russo left and Bischoff started pushing another 'huge stable is taking over' angle with aces&eights and other bullshit.

But the real reason why TNA is what it is today is:
a)wasting loads of money on Hogan, Jerkoff and other shitters, instead of pushing guys like AJ, Bad Influence etc.
b)losing tv deal with Spike
That's it.

>>
>>2786841

TNA's HIGHEST EVER number of viewers was 2.2 Million, which was thanks to the Hogan debut - not any of Russo's stories. They never reached that number again. They were lucky to average anything close to that amount.

Russo also wasn't "head of creative" or "writing TNA" at the time, like he insists. He was one of many writers on the staff.

Did Russo have some fascination with Nash?
He was booked as one of the greatest in WCW and he sucked in TNA but still got GOAT booking.

Nash was one of greatest in WCW. Russo was only in WCW 9 months combined.

Nash did not suck in TNA. Nash is a powerful character; complex & polarising. You see Big Kev has swag - he's cool, you can't teach that. At the same time he's smart; manipulative & self serving. He's the type that seizes power; the inmate running the asylum. He brought a sophisticated alpha male presence with Hollywood acting experience to the show.

Comedic Nash is GOLD. His X-Division segments were GOAT. Nobody talks about it but Nash pulled off an updated bodyguard gimmick to perfection in addition to acting as a locker room lawyer/mentor (with ulterior motives) for Samoa Joe in their 11 month storyline/feud from December 2007 to November 2008. He was a perfect fit for Main Event Mafia (which was actually his idea) that was storyline that was a rating success. Then he had one last nostalgia run with Scott Hall.

In addition to still looking the part as a jacked, 7ft attraction, Nash was an industry legend who still passed the airport test, plus Nash could still work & take bumps. He actually wrestled with renewed vigour in TNA.

But to answer your question, Russo was and still is a big fan of Nash.
