Too much to say really. It remains my favorite wrestling company ever to this day. WCW and WWE actually borrowed a lot from ECW. ECW innovated or popularized a lot of things we see in wrestling today and that even includes the small things we rarely think about today like tapping out to a submission in a match.

ECW had this way of making nearly every guy on the roster, no matter how shit, seem important. Paul Heyman knew how to get shit over. Meanwhile WWE continues to struggle getting most people to like Reigns.

the only thing i didn't like about ecw was alfonso. fucking annoying with his constant whistle blowing, stealing the spotlight from tazz and sabu by getting in the camera's face during their entrances and putting his punchable rat face front and center. his voice was almost as obnoxious as his whistle. too bad he didn't bleed out completely in that one match he had. fuck fonzie.

The promos.

Jerry Lynn saying something to the effect of: "Huh, it really is a bingo hall." during one of his promos still cracks me up on the those rare occasions it pops into my head.

Honestly though, most of it was entertaining without wearing out it's welcome or being forced on the viewer. I miss it.

I would consider it more of a campy exaggerated comedy form of ECW. Like I said before, it would be a pretty long post to mention what ECW either innovated or popularized for wrestling. I'll try and mention some noteworthy stuff here.

Some greats of today like Stone Cold Steve Austin, was actually showing signs of his character first in ECW before he went to WWF. Guys like Jericho, Malenko and Benoit, including others were noticed and signed to the bigger companies thanks to their work in ECW.

Haitch actually ripped off a lot from Shane Douglas character. Even though I would say HHH is still original enough to not be a blatant rip off.

I actually found this out last night and apparently I must have forgotten but WWE even had Noble and Kid Kash doing the Pitbulls gimmick years later. They were even calling them by the same name. It didn't last long though and obviously those two would never have been able to do that gimmick as well.

It basically popularized hardcore wrestling as we know it. That even includes the more watered down hardcore wrestling WWE does today.

Taz either innovated or popularized tapping people out in wrestling. May have happened in wrestling before that but Taz without a doubt popularized the concept. Before that wrestlers would either pass out or give the ref verbal submission.

Sabu essentially popularized tables being used in the US.

ECW did the triple threat every man for himself match before the other two did.

Sandman was drinking beer and being a hardcore SOB well before Stone Cold. Whether he intentionally stole or not fact is Sandman came before Austin.

The ascension basically does a variation on the elimination finisher innovated by the Eliminators.

Dudley's definitely innovated the 3D. Funny how WWE actually tried giving it to Harper and Rowen that one time.

ECW popularized more realistic wrestling characters in general.

>>
>>2723584
There is more to.

They popularized, perhaps even innovated in the US at least, intentional male violence against women. Think Bubba power bombing Mae Young through a table. These days you'll never get this in PC PG WWE.

More on Haitch. Haitch like Shane before him, liked to surround himself with others in a group. True that Flair was before these guys but Haitch borrows so much more from The Franchise then he does Flair. The Franchise was cutting edgy heel promos well before HHH. In fact HHH even started wearing hats in the 90's only after Shane did it first. Doesn't stop their either. Shane was surrounding himself with baes before HHH did it. Again of course Flair came before these two but as I said, HHH borrowed more from Douglas than he did Flair. I'd even go so far to say HHH even borrowed Shane's look a bit. With that said I still like HHH and I consider him original and unique enough to not be a completely blatant rip off.

I'm pretty sure ECW did the barbed wire match well before you saw barbed wire allowed in WWE. I wouldn't be surprised if ECW innovated that in the US at least. To be fair here, the Japs did do a lot of shit first before the US for hardcore wrestling. With that said, don't ever count on their being a barbed wire match in WWE (where the ropes are barbed wire). TNA has actually done such a match with Abyss vs Sabu. But lol its TNA.

It is getting a bit redundant but yeah they popularized/innovated most of the hardcore shit we see in wrestling today. That includes flaming table spots. I will say though cool on WWE to innovate those inferno matches. Only really works for certain characters though.

For better or worse (these days I'd say worse) ECW fans popularized and innovated way too much chants to really even remember it all. Holy shit and this is awesome? Definitely heard that in ECW before ever hearing it anywhere else. Difference is ECW fans never overdid it with these now annoying chants. Not the case today.

Just a bit more on HHH copying Shane Douglas kek.

Both will go down as average at best wrestlers in the ring. This is an opinion not only I have but even many wrestlers in the industry think at least about HHH.

They both idolized Ric Flair a lot.

With Shane Douglas a lot of his edginess was actually genuine due to the above. He eventually went on to hate Ric Flair.

Much of Shane's character came from feeling like he was overlooked by those in charge. Probably real feelings he had outside of the character. He felt he was way better than that and deserved to be recognized as such. Sound an awful lot like one famous guy we all know today?

The reason Benoit became known as the crippler? Well because he broke Sabu's fucking neck that is why.

>always loved how trashy and slutty she looked
Mah nigga. 1000 times mah nigga.

The Awesome/Tanaka series.
The Tajiri/Guido/Super Crazy series.
The way Taz and sometimes RVD managed to give their ppv matches the "big fight feel" that only Brock can manage now.
The healthy well-cared for tag division.
The fact that they didn't hide the fact that other promotions existed, openly mentioning rival companies and co-operating with FMW, WWF and the mexican leagues.
JOEL GERTNER
The surprisingly good commentary duo of Joey Styles and Cyrus on later ppvs.
The Dudleys basically being allowed to do whatever they wanted as heels.
The handling of Rhino from a green rookie into an unstoppable monster.
Raven being the coolest man in wrestling in the mid to late 90s.
The smark crowd. It was fine when it was 400 nutters in Philadelpha and house shows, where as today it's full grown manchildren at every wwe event.

>>2719392

>ECW was purchased by Vince McMahon and was used as a middle ground between developmental and the main WWE roster, having purchased the rights to the ECW name and belts ECW as a part of WWE can only be seen as a continuation of the lineage of Extreme Championship Wrestling and to suggest otherwise would be ignoring everything ECW built as a legacy now that it has ended as of February 2010 with the prestigious ECW title that has lineage all the way down to Shane Douglas being around the waist of ECW wrestler Ezekiel Jackson

No fuck off with that crap. Most ECW wrestlers knew that they still had to lift unlike the faggots of today who prefer to eat at the local McDonalds or play video games instead.

There was never any moment that I can recall where you saw superkicks being thrown out like in a Young Bucks match or like in that triple threat match I saw for Progress Wrestling. Meme wrestling is more a modern day thing.
