>Sources say Owen Hart arrived at the Kemper arena around 12 pm. He was introduced to Bobby Talbert, a rigger hired to oversee Owen's stunt. Talbert had recently acquired a quick-release snap shackle for the stunt, because Mr. McMahon wasn't satisfied with the way the two other stunts played on television. This new device would allow Owen to easily free himself. The plan was to have Owen release early, so he could land and continue his superhero style run around the ring, flapping his cape. All Owen would have to do is tug lightly on a cord that would release him from the rappelling line from his harness safely. Owen never really wanted to do it "but somehow, over the weekend" said Bret Hart, who was a major talent in WCW at the time, "he got talked into doing it again."

>"Owen was supposed to turn up to the middle of the arena to rehearse the stunt at 2 pm. But, unbeknownst to anybody, he sneaked out of the arena to catch some fresh air, and didn't return until 3.30 pm. It was clear he left to avoid having to practice the stunt, and thought his absence would go unnoticed and management would quickly forget their orders.

>But they didn't. And they weren't happy with Owen either.

>The test run went perfectly, right up until Owen landed, when Owen inexcusably forget Talbert's earlier specific orders. He didn't pull the release cord, which caused a few WWF officials to get visibly annoyed at Owen. He was asked to do the whole thing again, but declined, and avoiding any potential argument, he walked forcefully back to his locker room. To those that saw Owen that afternoon, it was clear his mind wasn't focused on wrestling."

> The event began that evening. Owen Hart was booked to win the Intercontinental Championship from Godfather that night in the second match of the card. After the first match was over, Owen made his way to the cat walk dressed as a member of the crowd. A pre taped promotional interview with Blue Blazer was shown on the Titantron as Owen prepared to make his decent. Talbert secured Owen in the harness and attached it to the lower mechanisms. At that moment the lights began to dim and Hart positioned himself, hanging onto the railing, waiting for his cue and for Talbert to lower him. It was then that Owen attempted to reposition his cape, accidentally triggered the quick-release, 78 feet above the ring. Owen was falling until he violently landed. Onlookers say he landed on his left side, hitting the top rope, just barely missing the turnbuckle itself. The landing caused severe internal bleeding and just six minutes after the fall, Owen Hart passed away. Medical personnel rushed to the ring and worked ecstatically, trying desperately to keep Owen's heart beating. He was loaded onto a stretcher and carried quickly to the backstage area. The 16,000 horrified fans in attendance were unsure whether or not the fall was staged and cheered for Owen as he was escorted to a near by hospital. Just minutes after the fall, Jim Ross along with Jerry "the King" Lawler announced that "Owen Hart has died. Owen Hart has tragically died from that accident, here tonight." Thankfully, fans watching the event live from home never saw the fall because of the interview.

> The crowd was never informed of Owen's death. Instead, the show was ordered to continue. From there on, the night was dampened. Backstage, during an interview with Jeff Jarrett, Debra, and Road Dogg Jesse James, they broke out of character hoping that Owen was alright, and that they're praying for him.

>The decision for the show to go on was controversial. WWF President, Vince McMahon stated "we have no answers" the night after, concerning the fall. "Out of respect for Owen, knowing the consummate performer he was, I'm sure members of the Hart family would concur with me that he would want the show to go on," McMahon said.

Then in the next match, Val Venus came out and asked if anyone wanted to see his dick.

Bruce Prichard is a faggot for not talking about this on his podcast

Pick up a dictionary, doofus.
>>
>>2643264
It was an accident. Sting did that many times, Shawn did it too
>>
>>2643323
It's hard to blame him. The dude broke down in tears talking about Mr. Perfect's death and seems to have trouble even forming coherent thoughts on Chris Benoit.

These were his friends, a lot of them guys he knew for years or decades. Talking honestly about them would be a fucking head trip for anyone.
>>
>>2643243
You left out the part of them chanting Nugget as Owen was carted off.
>>
>>2643477
he was on the verge of tears talking about piper's death too

Does anyone have a clip of Val's entrance? He mentions looking up to see how high the fall was.

Listening to the piper episode was fucking depressing.
>>
>>2643259
Shut up, asshole
I actually learned a few new things from this post, like the details of the practice run and the fact that it took him 6 minutes to die after falling

wtf is the montpellier screwdriver?
>>
Why couldn't/didn't Owen go to WCW with Bret?

Surely Bret would've had enough pull to land him a job there.

Hogan's got you covered brother.
>>
>>2643839
Owen was all about money and miles.
>>
>>2643561
I just re-watched it on the Network and didn't notice him looking up. He's totally in-character, dancing and strutting to the ring as usual, then cuts his normal promo. The camera came off of him when Nicole Bass (RIP) made her entrance, so he might have looked up at that point, but otherwise it was the normal Val.

I'm not hating on him for that. I respect the fact that he was able to go out and perform, I just think maybe he could have skipped the whole "You show me yours and I'll show you mine (points at his dick)" promo just this once.
>>
>>2643839
Prichard says that Owen was the only one Vince still wanted (as opposed to Davey Boy and Jim). He was willing to let him go if that's what Owen really wanted, but offered him a big raise and a chance to work the main event with Shawn if he stayed. The main event thing didn't work out because of lolshawn, but he supposedly got a big bump in pay.
>>
>>2643236
>He was introduced to Bobby Talbert, a rigger hired to oversee Owen's stunt.

God damn you 4chan, I read this as nigger at first

Sting did it all the time, with a trench coat on.

Shane o mac would have taken that bump and still got the W
>>
Has footage of it ever been leaked?
>>

its on the darkweb but some memester will come in here and say that it isn't
>>
>>2643264
Owen is a klutz.

You can only get mad at McMahon for going on with the show. Not for the idiot hitting his quick release during an adjustment 70 feet above the ring and not holding on to something/someone.
>>
>>2644369
No. It has to exist because the hard camera was running and WWE tapes absolutely everything. They wouldn't have destroyed it immediately since they had to know that criminal/civil cases were coming, but I figure they probably burned it after everything died down. There was really no point in keeping it.
>>
>>2644422
>You can only get mad at McMahon for going on with the show.

I don't know that there's a right or wrong answer there. The fucking show goes on no matter what, and there was millions of dollars in PPV money to consider, but I don't know that anyone would have complained if he had shut the thing down.

I do think it's a little retarded for people to say that Owen would have wanted it that way. Everything I've heard about Owen suggests to me that he would have shut down the show and taken the loss. Vince just isn't wired that way.
>>
>>2643236
So. Owen caused it himself by not practicing?

All I'm seeing from this is that Owen screwed Owen. He literally killed himself because he didn't want to do a stunt.

Ruined his career, every other Harts career, and Austins career earlier. Fuck Owen.

From what I've heard, Owen truly was tired of living in his brother's shadow and wanted to break out on his own badly.

kek i never noticed too and read the entire post thinking talbert is a black man until i saw your post
>>
>>2643459

Did they have the stupid quick release thing?
>>
>>2644437

I'm with Vince on that one. You have thousands of people who paid to see the entire show, and not putting it on isn't going to bring Owen back anyway.

It's one thing if it happened before the main event to scrap it and not send a last second replacement in to putz out a quick match for the sake of it, but this was the opener. You can't shut the whole fucking show down over this.
>>
>>2644877
Yes. He had to unhook himself when he landed, it's also why he wore a trenchcoat a lot - to hide the harness.
>>
>>2644882
They can easily shut the whole show down if they want to. But the best thing for everyone is to keep the show going. I was watching the PPV as it happened, no one had any clue WTF was going on and the show continuing was the best outcome. Fans didn't know he had died just that he had an accident and then when the family became aware and all hope was lost they could deal with it.
>>
>>2643243
>he was falling until he landed
