What went wrong?

The same thing that happens with NXT superstar that gets called up to the main roster.
They get over hyped on NXT because it is an edited show and then they prove how terrible they are on the main roster and a live environment.
Asusumed everyone knew who they were instead of retreading the funny skits that got them over in the first place

they got booked way too strong

One of the things that made American Alpha so over to the NXT crowd was the desperation of Gable trying to get Jordan to agree to tag with him, Jordan reluctantly agreeing after a series of terrible auditions with other wrestlers then being shocked when they worked so well together. Followed by a transition period of intentionally awkward backstage promos and Gable still being needy/insecure/borderline creepy.
The main roster audience didn't see that character development. They just arrived as a well-functioning team.

To add I dont think they every had a promo in their entire time on the main roster. I think they had one where they called all the smackjobbers out for a match, but besides that they havent do a thing
Smackdown shouldnt have had that fake Usos injure Gables ankle angle, it totally stopped their momentum

They're not letting them cut promos. Literally the only reason they're not doing as well as they could be.

They're not Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas.
They're boring and they got exposed out of the NXT bubble.
They're boring and they never got any mic time to prove otherwise. In that turmoil match that they won, I was hoping for ANY other team, even the fucking ascension, to win over them. Every other tag team on the roster has more character development than they do.
They rushed their title victory
Should have had the Usos dominate the division until WM
