>While the Alamodome crowd of 60,525 was the third largest crowd ever for pro wrestling in the United States, it was something of a disappointment as it was heavily papered (48,014 paid which turned out okay after early scares that they weren't going to be able to come close to filling the building and papering began in earnest) and the gate was only $480,013 since many of the tickets were $5 discount tickets. Michaels appeared to be on his way to dropping the title to Hart at Mania.
>Of course nothing close to that happened. Apparently McMahon had promised Sid, to get him to lose to the home town hero as a favor, that he would get the title back immediately. That was to come on a USA network special on February 13 from Lowell, MA. Michaels, when finding out he was dropping the title back, and also was out of the Mania main event and instead would be losing in the semifinal to arch-rival Hart, came to the building, claimed a potential career ending knee injury, gave a teary-eyed speech acting as if his career was over, and vacated the title. While his knee was legitimately bad, he didn't even undergo surgery and returned quicker than anyone expected, and without missing a step in the ring.

My favourite wrestler growing up but god what a piece of shit.
the only reason HBK is forgiven is that he has called out his own behaviour multiple times, admitted being a piece of shit and spent his second run from 2002 to retirement putting guys over and delivering top matches
otherwise he'd be remembered only as a flop and a piece of shit
