WWE never knew what to do with Del Rio. They never gave him an actual character.

When he debuted he was supposed to be like some kind of Mexican JBL. This very rich guy who also happens to be a very talented wrestler.

The idea most people had at the time of his debut was he would be hinted to be something like the leader of a Cartel and would eventually form a stable of tough guys to surround him in the WWE. Then some hero could go through each of those guys one by one Desperado style before Del Rio would finally take off his suits and put on his wrestling boots to deal with the perro himself. That's why his gear had that brilliant white color. It was supposed to elude to riches and royalty.

But none of that ever happened. Del Rio wrestled way too often for a guy of what was supposed to be his power level at first. He should have only wrestled on the PPVs and had his henchmen doing his work on the weekly shows. By putting him on the wheel of aggression and sacrificing him to the altar of Sheamus the WWE through him under the bus.

Remember when he debuted he was made out to be some sort of pretty nice guy with hints towards a darker side? There was so much to work with there. He could have been one of the best heels in the WWE of the first half of the 2010s if he had been given the chance.
