Yeah sometimes he doesnt rate short nothing matches because its pointless but in this case it was a bad match. Sasha seemed really off and there were reports of her sulking backstage because she was losing. She was sloppy and executed some stuff poorly for a 6 min match so it deserves a 1* rating.

It's exactly why WWE isn't able to build credible stars anymore. Brass knuckels is a giga heel move that would make the fatass a credible asshole, it's not like Roman looks weak after a hit like that, but nah, he gotta look really, really strong.

That's not why. It's because Meltzer has been critical of the buildup to the match on Smackdown and the story being about John Cena feeling like AJ had to earn his respect, even though the story of their Summer Slam match was that AJ proved himself and earned John's respect. Meltzer cares a lot about the build up to a match, it's part of why he rated Punk v Cena 5* at MitB. He took points off because the buildup didn't make sense to him and made AJ look weak.

I honestly rate the Cena/AJ match a 3.5.

The beginning was overselling by Cena and the end was underselling by Cena. 2 minutes in he was selling punches like he was dead. He was grasping up climbing his body like some sort of homoerotic soft porn, then after getting hit with a couple of finishers and being in submission holds all match he suddenly musters up the strength to do 2 flips and deadlift AJ? Nah.

One more thing, the Okada Omega match was too choreographed. I know I'm throwing some Cornette tier opinions here, but the early allure of wrestling was that it was real. No one is buying any of this shit.

Nakamura and Roode was great, for sure.

That half crab at the end was excellent storytelling. Though I found a match was a bit of a slog to start. Didn't pick up till about a quarter of the way through it. Still really good though.

But back to Cien/Strong.

I wasn't too aware of Strong before he came to NXT. But he's grown on me. All he needs is a deeper character.

Cien has been doing his best work so far as a heel. He didn't work well as a face when he started in NXT. Though I hear he was an excellent face when we was in Mexico.

They put on a solid match. Gave the guys exposure and allowed them to develop more.

Definitely worth a 3.5.
