Good buildup is very important to get the crowd hyped and entrances are a huge part of it.
Sadly no one can really make the crowd pop anymore. Bryan was really the last guy who could do it. Unless the show is in a smark city it's dead all around.

You like characters, skits, entrances, etc.
But you don't like actual wrestling matches.
Go watch normal TV to see entertaining and compelling characters in well written enthralling stories. Because you will not find that in pro wrestling. And since you don't like the in-ring performance of wrestling (seriously, why even watch wrestling if you don't like the matches?) all you want are characters you can invest in. You will find those literally everywhere else in any entertainment medium such as movies or TV shows or anything else. But the matches ARE boring. It's always the same formula, it's always the same fucking moves and the same fucking finishes. There's nothing interesting about a "wrestling match". It's just people doing choreographed moves, you may enjoy it but you can't say somebody is not a wrestling fan just because he doesn't enjoy the in ring action.

All the matches are literally the same one way or another, you know if somebody is gonna get pinned or not based on the length of the match, not even kicking out of finishers is surprising anymore.

It's not a surprise that the most talked about match of 2016 in WWE was Goldberg squashing Lesnar, because it was something new and unexpected. What made wrestling so popular was the characters and the promos, not in ring action. The workrate smarks like you are the reason why wrestling is in it's current state.

For me it was just overexposure. There was too much wrestling, too many internet articles, and too much of it was shit.

So, now I only really watch the PPVs and maybe some Lucha, and fuck about on /asp/ from time to time.

Basically, I got away from Raw and Smackdown, stopped browsing wrestling websites, and now I enjoy what I do watch much more.

WWE is the McDonald's of wrestling. It's famous, but doesn't deliver anything great. I don't usually watch full wrestling programs anymore, I just go to their youtube channels and get the highlights. Even the five minute youtube videos from WWE are boring to me compared to everyone else. TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground, or NJPW are all giving something different though. WWE has not been good for years, and looking back, I realized that the only time they were good was mostly when someone from another company was coming in. "Oh man, WCW and ECW teaming up against the WWF? Awesome!" "The nWo just broke Stone Cold's knee with a cinder block and ran into the Rock's ambulance with a semi truck!" "GOLDBERG'S BROKEN THE ROCK IN HALF BAH GAWD!" Anything RVD did in the beginning or ECW pay-per-views when he started bringing back his old moves. The only stuff original to WWE that I enjoyed were Undertaker and Kane. The rest is all watered down kiddy crap with predictable matches, fart fetish gimmicks, bathroom humor, necrophilia storylines, incest, brand splits that ensure you'll see only the same wrestlers face each other every week to keep things and self-fellating revisionist history about WCW. Half the youtube videos WWE puts out every week are "remember when this happened?" pining for the glory days without delivering anything near equal quality in the present. That's the sign of a failed product. The good news is that there are alternatives.

Personally my suggestion would be that if you want both great promos, character moments, and matches, you need to watch this man's Broken Brilliance.
