>Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart are both considered two of the best in ring performers of all time. The WWF nearly goes out of business during their run on top

>Steve Austin and The Rock are considered the two of best wrestlers on the mic of all time. Wrestling has never been more popular and profitable as it was during their run on top

Really shows what is important in wrestling doesn't it?
>>
Austin was a great in-ring guy even after his neck injury.

>forgetting that the lowest-drawing WWE World Champion of all-time was Diesel
>>
>>2145563
Yeah but Austins character and mic work is what got him over, the ringmaster drew 0 dimes
>>
Doesn't everyone know this? Austin/Hogan/Cena/Rock all got over on their charisma and mic work, actual wrestling wasn't a priority

Austin was a great worker before Owen broke his neck, but he hit his peak after

Hogan was a decent worker who stepped up the actual wrestling in Japan, but he drew the most money in the States with about four moves

Cena didn't start having consistent good matches until 2014

Rock was a great seller but his wrestling was subpar
>>
>>2145563
The lowest drawing champ was Hbk right after diesel moron
>>
>>2145571
Never mind just checked, it's after Bret Hart. Then it's diesel. He drew more than those two guys.
>>
>>2145569
all the weebs watching WK 11 don't
>>
>>2145566
>implying The Ringmaster had great matches

>>2145571
>>2145578
Diesel is the eternal lowest-drawing champ.
>>
>>2145569
>Cena didn't start having consistent good matches until 2014

What a load of bullshit.
>>
>>2145643
Not him, but Cena spend a lot of time feuding with Orton which got old quickly and then he was in feuds with people like Big Show, Kane, Ryback etc
>>
>>2145647

Cena had consistently good matches as far back as 2007. Umaga, HBK matches, Orton, Lashley, Fatal 4 with Orton/HBK/Edge, and so on.
>>
Thing is, even though those top two guys were great in-ring, most of the other dudes in the promotion at that time were shit. NJ has a super stacked roster throughout with fewer shit workers compared to Early-Mid 90s WWE.
>>
Mid 90s was filled with gimmicks and nonsensical booking no one gave a fuck about. The attitude era tapped into what culture was about at the time and was therefore culturally relevant.

Austin and Rock are great wrestlers and worked matches well. Hogan was underrated as well in his ability to work.

To get over you need all of it or you need to be unique enough to be an attraction in an of itself. Plus you need an interesting midcard since most of your cards and shows will be filled with this, your top guys can't carry the company single handily.
>>
>>2145654
have you ever watched 1998 WWF? Austin is like 95% of the reason people are watching

that roster is horrible before rock, mick foley and hh become bigger deals
>>
>>2145661
>your top guys can't carry the company single handily.
but Austin literally did this for 97-98 the midcard before late 1999 was fucking awful
>>
>>2145674
>Austin literally did this for 97

Did you actually watch 97 RAW?
>>
>>2145689
yes and the Austin vs Harts was the only thing worth watching
>>
>>2145666
>ave you ever watched 1998 WWF?
yes. and by 1998 WWE had figured out that updating their booking to reflect the general trend of society would help them to deliver a better product. They were also in the midst of competing with Nitro, losing much of that year in the ratings war but coming out on top by the end of 98.
>>
>>2145694

You know that contradicts what you said previously, right? There was also Kane's arrival in late 97, HBK, DX's formation, the Nation of Domination, and Foley occasionally. I agree Austin was the most entertaining guy, but Bret was putting out his best character work that year.
>>
>>2145642
ringmaster had GOAT matches with Savio Vega
>>
>>2145716
Oh yeah that was epic
>>
>>2145880
>this 2k16 babby
Fuck off
>>
>>2145666
Wwf success never been about workrate in national boom periods. Even Wcw biggest era isn't workrate based but brawling.

Ecw had all their workrate guys fighting for tv and tags not the world title.

If you wanted workrate watch the other companies or global feds at the times.

People in usa want the spectacle. Even in uk big daddy was the biggest thing.

Njpw was successful for having strgenth based style and faction wars and angles in the 90.

Workrate is alright but not the be end of all things.
