Go watch some of his matches and decide for yourself. His last couple Wrestlemania matches aren't really highly regarded (they were respectively against Shane, a non-wrestler, against Bray Wyatt and against Brock, where he suffered a massive concussion very early on)

His matches with Brock at Summerslam and Hell in a Cell and his match with Punk at WM29 are generally his most well-regarded relatively recent matches.

Mick could take an inhuman amount of pain, he could actually wrestle too though. To me there has always been a difference between hardcore wrestling and garbadge wrestling.

A well worked HC match still needs some sembelance of skill, timing, and storytelling.

Garbage wrestling is just dangerous spots and weapons. As much as i appreciate what Mick went through to entertain an audience, that style of wrestling encouraged a whole cottage industry of terrible performers who have zero skill to start hitting each other with crap for real, and calling it wrestling. I'm thinking specfically about CZW and other deathmatch feds.

Not to say Mick or even ECW inventes the deathmatch, but they did a lot to popularise it in the west.
