connor was getting picked apart by a better boxer, was getting hazy and in danger of not surviving the round on his feet so he shot for a takedown out of desperation to stall for time and clear his head

sage was in pretty good control during stand up, mickey was the one in desperation mode and threw a sloppy haymaker but luckily for him it connected and he himself was surprised it worked,he was even off balance after and facing the wrong direction. You can see the look on his face, he's a little shocked himself that sage had gotten knocked down. But sage didn't go down because he was rocked from the blow, he was off balance from the clinch and the punch pushed him over. sage had a clear head and quickly got up to his feet as mickey lunged in, sage saw that as an opportunity to pick his leg because mickeys approach was sloppy but he fucked up his takedown by doing it from WAY too far out and mickey was able to stuff it and take his back.

it was a fluke, but these things happened. Showed sages inexperience more than mickeys fighting prowess.
it was a good shot, totally fair, but it was more luck than skill

Those weren't even real knock downs, it was only happening at the beginning of the fight. He said he was trying to bait mcgrundle into trying to finish him so he could attack him with a sub, so he was getting "knocked" down. It wasn't working so he stopped going down

unfortunately that tactic probably cost him the fight because it made connor look like he won the first round with lots of knockdowns
