Why didnt Vince just wait until Hogan, Nash, Sting, and Goldberg's Time Warner contracts were up before doing the Invasion angle? The angle would've been 10x hotter and he only had to wait like another year.

They went through multiple plans to bring back WCW before it came down to a piss poor storyline that ate up half a calender year. They originally planned to have a WCW show air on Saturday nights. When that fell through, they considered rebranding one of their existing shows into a WCW show. Finally, they went with the Invasion because with Haitch, Rock and Benoit out they lost a bunch of potential story lines and the Brand Split was meant to be used for the conclusion of the angle.

Shane and WCW were also meant to be faces but the crowd rejected them hard.
