Grappling General /asp/. Talk about the usual: upcoming tournaments, techniques you're working on, techniques you favor, shitposting bjj vs Judo.
But topic of discussion is your worst That Guy stories from That Guy at your Gym.
Today that guy spat in my mouth when I was in his guard. Who the fuck does that?
last night that guy didn't tap and went home early with an ice pack wrapped on his elbow
>>1934148
I'm sure everyone was impressed with how tough he was.
>>1934055
wtf that spitter guy is mental, should've up-kicked him right in his mush

Im a 2 month white belt. How do i move quicker and stop being such a lazy grappler? Everyone moves circles around me, but i never know when to expend my energy and when to conserve it. If i try to not be so lazy i end up feeling like vomitting after a roll, but im sick of getting tapped like 15 times a class, by whitebelts tol
>>1934515
You don't have enough experience or tools in rolling. Conserve energy in setups, explode in transitions when you have a dominant position. Work on setups with your locks.
>Tfw your training partner leaves you in a triangle while she talks to the instructor
At least she was warm.

Guess ill bump this thread
If anyone is in New Jersey on November Nov 13th
Damain Maia is teaching a wrestling clinic/MMA grappling clinic
its a $100 and there is enough room for 100 students.
http://edgehoboken.com/adult-programs/demian-maia-seminar/
Its one of the few American clinics Maia will be doing before he does a string of UK clinics next month and next year.

Does anyone know what credentials to look for in a Judo school? For jiu jitsu you can trace the training lineage of the head instructor, but I dont know about Judo.
I think it'd be a good supplement my BJJ, but all the schools in my have names like "super ninja tiger shark judo".
I dont wanna waste my time/money at a McDojo.

If its in the US,
Affiliation with one of the 2 organizational groups (USA judo, USJF judo)
randori/sparring competition records of instructors or senior belts
Sometimes you're right there are some wishy washy TMA/Jujitsu schools parading around as judo dojos, they may do some drilling but rarely spar/compete
You want to have a judo school that is active and sparring . So ask them and then take a preview class.
>>1937315
Many thanks
>>1934515
START doing cardio outside class along withe the other advice people have given you. Sounds like you need it

>>1937309
Look for a competitive dojo, it will rule out the mc dojos.
>>1937505
What do you recommend? Sprints? Long distance? Circuits?
Also, best way to practice/get better on days i dont grapple?
Pity bump for you fellas

HIIT. That's what I'm doing to get ready for Naga.

How bout i fuck ur mum
Used to do bjj 4x a week for almost a year, but that was 3 years ago. Just went to my first class since then yesterday. It's mostly the same people. I've been doing powerlifting since then and have gotten way stronger, but everyone else has been in tons of tournaments and shit since then. Wish me luck, lads.
>>1942069
Tell us about your experience after your fist training brah.
>>1942069
Damn you're gonna get submitted hella quick for a while.
>>1940858
I set a tredmill at maximum speed and incline. Do that for 10 seconds, rest for 20. AMRAP.
>>1942069
I wish someone would film that. I mean, back on the day we had tons of /fit/ vs /asp/ threads and, while most were shitposting and memes, it was nice to see videos of good techniques beating power lifters as nothing.
Learned 80/20 today. Anyone else like using this position?
>>1943941
That would be embarrassing. It wouldn't be fun to watch though, because I'm in the 47kg class of powerlifting, so it's not like I look like a typical powerlifter.
>>1942450
Yeah, I used to get picked on by one of the members who had been there for almost a year. And some of the younger people would pick me up and literally throw me (no judo toss shit but just bullshit) because I'm small. I weigh 10lbs less now. We'll see what happens.
>>1942216
No one showed up except another noob, so we just did drills and no rolling. I'll let you guys know how my first roll goes.
Bumparooni
so what does it even mean when you get your first stripe? That you show uo?
TFW Clark Gracie is doing a seminar in your town next week

Hill sprint. Thread mills are not as efficient. But they are milder for your knees, hips and spine.
Burpees if you're stuck at home.
Some bw crossfit routines are good:
Cindy: As much round as possible in 20 minutes of the following: 5 pull-up 10 push-up 15 squats.
Five rounds of the triplets: 10 burpees, 7 pull-up, 400m run.
Pull-up are your best friend cause the work the upperbody the more and give you that grip strenght.
Thinking about learning a martial art. Should I go to this school since I know for a fact Gracie is a pretty big name
http://www.gracieagawam.com/
thanks
>>1946656
Yes. When I get to 50/50 I default to going for a leg drag or to 80/20.
Although, I'd rather be in a different leg locking position.
>>1952895
I would say the Gracie name is more of bad sign than a good one. Too many shitty Gracies. Like they're good, but not as coaches/human beings.
That's also just an affiliate I'd guess, which may actually be a better sign. But fuck, who the fuck would want to be affiliated with Royce? Bad sign.

Do girls get heavy for Judo competition?
Ive noticed that they seem to put on a bunch of weight temporarily while they are fighting and them shrink down again.
That judoka went from those pics, to pic related and back again.
I noticed the same thing with a lot of them, like Rousey too, they get dense as fuck.
Is it only for grappeling that they do this? Because they seem to go the other way in other combat sports.
Am i wrong? Or do they pack on the pounds more than what looks natural on them?
>>1952895
If this is really the only place around I'd say go but if not shop around check out the other schools.
>>1952895
Also it's just a gracie afiliate you will probably never be taught by a gracie at this place it's kinda just a brand at that point
>>1953073
I suppose they become bigger because the muscles become denser and such. Also, having some strength and more weight helps to not be thrown around as easily.
>tfw you break someone's molar applying a modified locoplata
Feels bad and good man.
>1952901
Where do you prefer for leglocks?
>>1953729
But then why is the opposite the norm in other combat sports where fighters kill themselves to make weight.
