Why does Dave Meltzer hold gook wrestling on such a pedestal?
>>
>>1922593
He just happens to like that style more, I guess.
He's not an objective wizard with infallible assessments; he's some 50 year old dude who lives with his parents and owns lots of fake-fight memorabilia giving his opinion on fake fighting contests.
>>
>>1922593
Remember that autistic kid in school who was really into anime and said Japanese animation was so much better than American animation?

Dave is that kid.
>>
Japan as a whole is simply way better than the US, not just when it comes to wrestling.
Sorry to say it but it's absolutely true.
>>
>>1922600
>50 year old dude who lives with his parents
He's married and has 2 kids
>>
>>1922604
This. Xenophobic gooks are based.

>>1922605
He really should move out. It's probably mad cramped.
>>
>>1922593
Because nips actually hurt each other
>>
New Japan is better than WWE on average because they have a considerably lighter schedule that lets them go all out on special shows. No traveling across countries for the entire week for months on end, no endless flights and drives, they actually get regular breaks.

The other reason is that their matches are often very well choreographed and better booked.

Like 33% of WWE's talent would be putting out excellent matches on a regular basis if they left WWE and went to New Japan.
>>
>>1922593
Because in the ring, it's better
>>
It's basically undeniable that if we're talking exclusively about match quality, NJPW is way better than WWE. They're at the top of the world.

I wish I could get more into NJPW but I just don't care that much about wrestling.
>when you come to the crushing realization that you prefer shitposting to actually watching things
>>
I love the butthurt WWE fans answering to that tweet. I wonder if any of them even bother watching these matches that Meltzer claims are better or if they just seethe to themselves
>>
Because the dumb gooks actually hit each other for real and meltzer likes that because he's a sadochist
>>
>>1922593
Hasn't he said in the past he holds WWE to a higher standard?
This is contradictory.
>>
>>1922657
Tokyo Dome is NJPW's Wrestlemania, my man
>>
>>1922669
That's true, They kill it on unprecedented levels there yearly.

That's a pretty sad Wrestlemania, senpai.

Weebs need to fuck off this board.
>>
>>1922631
They're better choreographed because the wrestlers plan them themselves. They feel like a combination of two styles instead of something laid out by a road agent, a writer, or a suit. The booker tells you who's going over and maybe a bit of what he wants to see, but that's it. WWE is a mess because its more TV than live performance.
>>
>>1922602
Normies would say the same thing too you know
>>
It's the equivalent of fedora tipping in the wrestling world.
>>
>>1923946
normies dont watch anime
>>
>>1922631
They do have the "Road to ..." stuff, where they put the big stars on tag matches just to stoke some fire into their upcoming matches.

But, that is also the time where they just take a break and not do too much, just gracing the arena with their presence.
>>
>>1922593
>Why does Dave Meltzer hold gook wrestling on such a pedestal?
Because it's superior when it comes to the actual wrestling. I don't understand why it triggers the trailer park marks so much though since they love to brag about how WWMEME doesn't care about actual match quality and it's the terrible story lines that matter.
>>
>>1924166
No it isn't. Everyone outside of WWMEME casuals acknowledges that Japan is the mecca of in-ring wrestling. Has nothing to do with LE TIPPY FEDORA XD. Japan has always put a much stronger focus on match quality whereas America has historically always put a much stronger focus on storytelling and characterization. That doesn't mean one is superior than the other; just different approaches to pro-wrestling.
>>
>>1922937
>Quality = Drawing ability

WM32 confirmed greatest WM of all time. WM13 confirmed worst WM.

>>
>>1924181
DBZ/Sailor Moon etc.

Don't be stupid
>>
>>1922593
Because NJPW is better
>>
>>1924452
Exactly.
the Indy darlings are copying Japans more technical style rasslin rather than based on the story's and characters

Thats why these indy shitters have no drawing power. Americans dont care about the wrestlers skill, but more about his character. This is why Enzo, Jericho and Miz and the New Gay are the most over.

Since everone else has no character at all appart from gimmicks that can be described in a sentence.
>>
>>1924928
The biggest problem with this is that the top Japanese wrestlers are incredible in-ring storytellers. They're able to put together these riveting, dramatic matches that tell crystal clear stories without the need of long in-ring promos or extensive video packages. However, NOBODY copies that part. Most of the Americans who crib from Japanese wrestling just steal the cool moves. In doing so, they're removing them from their context and doing them just to do them instead of using them to tell a story. And thus, nobody cares.

Rollins and Owens proved this last night. They did a ~FIGHTING SPIRIT~ spot where they no-sold a bunch of hard hits in rapid succession to pop the crowd before hitting each other hard and then falling to the mat for a while. When those spots are done by, say, Shibata or Ishii, it's meant to show that their brains have completely checked out and that they're pushing their bodies beyond what they should be capable of. Often, they pay the price for this extra exertion. In the case of Owens vs. Rollins, though, they just kind of did the spot and moved on. It just didn't work for that match's story up to that point, which had been based around Rollins's back as well as crazy bumps into the cage. I liked the match overall, but that spot was stupid and showed that storytelling is lacking among those kinds of wrestlers.
>>
>wwe fags still believe the "japs hit each other for real" meme

you know, if your heads weren't filled with fedoramen cum, maybe you would realize japs are just that good at wrestling, making dumbasses believe it's real

How the fuck hasn't this received a fedora?
>>
>>1925044
Not everyone is a memeing faggot like you m8. The whole appeal and reason why some western relevance has come to NJPW is due to this fact. You don't need month long 50/50 booking with shitty promos to tell a story. Actual fighting doesn't need it outside of conferences and interviews, neither does fake fighting.

>>
>>1924928
Jericho was an "indy darling" of his era and got his first real break in Japan.

>indy shitters have no drawing power.

Still got more than Reigns.
>>
>>1925044
>>1925064
Your raging faggotry aside, that entire sentence is literally how you draw money. Being able to tell a story properly in the ring is a skill that everyone who has ever drawn in wrestling has had. For example, if you show someone Hogan/Rock at WM18 without any of the video packages and they'll instantly know why they're fighting and why they should care. Both Rock and Hogan fucking show you. In the ring. Their moves and mannerisms tell the whole "Icon vs. Icon" story. Contrast that with a modern WWE main event where it's a bunch of guys flipping around, hitting their copy-pasted high spots, lying around, and then no-selling before hitting some more in a pre-arranged order. It's the same formula regardless of the angle or who's in the match. Everything is interchangeable.

The current main eventers in NJPW (and others) tell stories that you can understand just by watching. Again, WWE's main eventers these days don't. Ratings are going down because of this shit. WWE has tried to make their own brand into a draw to compensate for this, but it's not working anymore.
>>
>>1925078
Reigns is basically a really pretty indie shitter who just uses more punching. He no-sells whenever he needs to hit his shit. He wrestles like he's running through a checklist of spots in his head. All of his matches are the same regardless of what he's supposed to feel about them. He's a boring-ass promo. Etc etc etc
>>
>>1925180
*does more punching. Jesus, I'm going full Engrish.

>>1924681
Proof?

>Still bigger than any WWE crowd this year besides WrestleMania.

>A steady stream of 10,000+ events and a 100,000 blowout
>A steady stream of 2,000 to 5,000 events and a 36,000 blowout
Really made me think. Maybe NJPW is not really in comparable terms with Vince's clubhouse, after all.
>>
>>1923606
Amerilard pls
>>
>>1925220
It's still the number two promotion in the world by a significant margin despite running in a much smaller marketplace. That's admirable.
>>
>>1925220
To be fair, in terms of size, scope and influence NJPW is closer to WWE than it is to LU and TNA. Aside from the UK tours a while back when was the last time TNA managed to get 10k attendance anywhere?
>>
>>1925220

CMLL & ROH are both far bigger than DixieLand and have been for years.

>>1925241
You can look at the numbers yourself, all the PPV make close to 15 with a dips to 7 or 9 after the brand split.
>>
>>1925245
So what, like 8 shows?

Out of the 300+ that WWE puts on a year?

I always imagined that NJPW had road agents as well. Maybe they're just better at their jobs.
