I was interested in joining a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym soon and start learning a full contact combat sport so I could learn how to fight
Thing is, I'm looking to get laser eye surgery soon which might make me unable to spar for a few months. That part is totally fine.
The issue I have is that the operation I might be getting, Lasik, creates a permanent flap in the eye which, although it may fully heal, will never be as strong as it was before and thus could risk it being dislodged if I receive a direct blow to the eye.
It's a small risk, but it's there, apparently. Another option, PRK, has the same result but doesn't create the flap, but it has a much longer recovery time.
My question to you BJJ practitioners out there, has anyone here done LASIK before? Has it affected the /asp/ side of your life? Would you recommend another procedure or should I stick with LASIK considering the risk of the flap being dislodged is so low. How often do you get hit in the eye rolling and how likely is this going to affect me

IIRC UFC fighter Donald Cerrone has had it done and talks about it in a podcast with Joe Rogan

Have sex
If you have the option, PRK will heal more fully. It will be a longer recovery, though.
I don't practice martial arts or anything, but I'm also interested in doing LASIK. One of my lecturers did one and she is always complaining about it. Light glows too much or some shit. Really makes me think bro.

Well she's complaining too soon.
Everyone knows that it's gonna be less than perfect for the first few weeks to a month, give it 3 months and keep going for check ups.
She'll be fine.
Get prk bjj will still be here when you recover.
