What in the blue hell went wrong?
They got the f out

Vince went soft. Wellness policy, supported Linda running for office, investing in one top guy for a decade, rock and austin leaving. take your pick.

Venoit dying, don't forget that

The day wrestling died

Wellness policy has been around since the 80s. It's arbitrarily enforced and certain people can do all the steroids and drugs they want.

Benoit died literally almost 5 years after they got the F out, kiddie
Lack of competition means Vince doesn't have to try to keep control of sports entertainment. Any attempts to create stars other than Cena for the last ~15 years, whether motivated by fan demand or by executive fiat, have run into problems: Brock Lesnar never cared for wrestling and jumped ship when he saw opportunity elsewhere and only came back part-time, CM Punk would rather lose and fail in UFC than show respect to authority and succeed in wrestling, Daniel Bryan was one concussion away from being the next Benoit, Roman Reigns is so boring he needs Adderall to get through his own segments, Dean Ambrose is apparently a nut for real, Seth Rollins legitimately injures people, AJ Styles wasted a lifetime of corporate loyalty on Dixie Carter's Home for Old Wrestlers and has a reputation (accurate or not) of being better-known for in-ring action than for charisma. So the only person Vince has been able to rely on to sell a show has been John Cena, meaning they can't do anything interesting with Cena, he has to be the purely heroic face that they can put at the centerpiece of their efforts with Make-A-Wish and that'll keep the kids believing in him and tuning in just to watch him. As time passes, classic stars retire. The Rock went to Hollywood. Stone Cold left. Shawn Michaels retired. Undertaker only comes to the show once a year. Triple H transitioned into an executive role. Meaning if the only star you made in the last decade and change was Cena, the star pool is shrinking. Because people watch wrestling for the stars, this has cut back on everything, and Vince has no reason to change it because nobody is challenging his throne now.
Also, the downgrade from TV-14 to TV-PG has left Attitude Era fans high and dry while not bringing in as much as expected of the younger audience, causing it to have been, under these circumstances, a net negative.

NXT
Lol they got buried by a panda

>more commercials than backstage banter

Four letters.
HD & PG
The product -looks- like shit. Without a doubt one of the ugliest, garish, poorly produced things on television. Awful, absolutely tasteless.
And everybody knows what PG means

Vince tried to play chicken with the panda, but the panda didn't blink.
