I think 2K became the actual developers with 2K15, 2K14 was developed by THQ and published by 2K and that one seems to be pretty well liked. Honestly, i think the newest games probably have the best character customization yet. The old ones are so limited. If you really care about how their actual bodies look i suggest getting 2k16 since they removed the sliders from this year's game, a lot of people have been bitching about that. Although this year's game probably has a lot more options for other stuff than last year's.

2k14 was developed by Yukes (who have made every mainline game since like 2000 or something), though it's definitely something that was very far along before THQ ate shit and 2K basically just published it whereas they had more input/control over 2k15 onwards.

Man I'm not sure how much of it is just nostalgia and how much of it is actual quality but I miss the mid-00's wrestling games. I enjoy 2k17 but I don't go into those games expecting quality. Every year when I'd get a new smackdown vs raw for a while it was always a big deal.
