Nikki and Ember are...strange cases for WWE. To my recollection WWE has never signed any woman during the prime of her career.

When Kana was signed it was after she turned 30, and there is an understanding that her future as a main roster star is probably limited.

Other indie women WWE has signed have been chosen more for their looks than abilities. Emma was not anyone of note when she was signed. AJ Lee was barely getting started with her career.

Sara Del Rey never appeared on WWE television as a wrestler. We'll never know what could have been.

Nikki and Ember are different. They are the real deal. While you can make some argument this or that woman on the indie circuit may be better than them you'd be making a very subjective statement about who is better than who. But what I think can be agreed is the notion that Nikki and Ember are both "very good" when it comes to women's wrestling in North America and Europe. They are representatives of that scene and I don't think you'd find any other to take their places.

So what is coming up in the next year will be quite interesting, oh very interesting indeed..

The closest other scenario I can think of is WWE signing Aja Kong in 1995 and her having some matches on RAW and at Survivor Series. She was still in her prime during this time compared to the other Joshi like Bull Nakano or Kyoko Inoue featured who were definitely banged up from the years in AJW. Still, their matches are among the greatest matches for women in WWE history, easily outclassing most of what the NXT women have done so far.
