Size 8/9 feet... skated best on 7.5's or 7.75's.
Less weight on the deck the better.
I quit skating like 6 years ago or so, and whenever I get back on my board now it's fucking haaard since I've now got a 8+ inch deck... the weight is silly.

>he does bonelesses below the coping
>>
it's been all summer and i still can't land a kickflip
sigh..
oh well back to the park 2morrow
i'll get it one day
maybe tomorrow will be the day
who knows
i'm still having fun
i can't ollie very high but thousands of attempted kickflips have certainly made me more comfortable on my board
and it shows in my ollies
i feel like i should practice my ollies more
but i need to land this kickflip.. for sanity's sake
i came so close today but i didn't land straight enough
felt good
i also worry if my kickflips would be too low to the ground and look stupid
but i don't really mind anymore, flipping the board and landing on it would be a huge accomplishment to me
good job i don't have any friends that pressure me and laugh at me
but maybe they would give me encouragement..
i don't need encouragement actually i can root for myself
which works so far
i like to keep my skateboard antics to myself
it's awkward when people watch
i feel like they are judging me
i guess everyone feels like this
it's nice that the area i skate is so empty, no distractions and i can just be myself
so one day i will land a kickflip
fighting~!

Hey man I've been skating on and off for years, and only landed a few real lame kickflips in all that time. They are fucking wack to get your head around. Nowadays I can land maybe one in ten kickflips. I find keeping my shoulders parrallel to the board really helps, you can feel the tension on your front foot that will flip the board. Then it's almost as simple as popping an ollie, you sorta just jump behind you a little bit.
I believe in you.

Loads of great skaters are that kind of height. 5'6 - 5'10 is pretty much the ideal height for skating. Think about it - your centre of gravity is lower and your limbs get in the way less, making them less prone to injury. It's easier to tuck and roll and your balance will be easier to master. I'm 6'6" and skating is a fucking challenge. Be thankful you aren't on the other side of the height coin when it comes to skating. That said, being tall rules in most other aspects of life...
>>
>>1839138
Just started skating legit a week ago. I ride every day after work for at least an hour in the parking lot of my apartment building. Practice manuals and ollies alternatingly. This Indian dude that walks for hours every day has taken to coming into the parking loop that I skate in now when he has never cut through before. It's becoming clear that he gets to position himself so that I'll run into him if I don't pay attention just to be a pain in the ass. Anyway, keep at it. I'm shit at ollies but I can pull off manuals across 1.5 parking spaces 1/3 times now. It's all about repetition.

Not just shuvs and 180s and other tricks that are universally easier fakie, I'm talking about fakie kick-flips, variels ect. Even my fakie ollie is higher than my regular one. I wonder if Ive been skating the wrong stance the whole time.

Do you mount wheels with graphics facing inwards or outwards? Why?
>>
>>1845736
Outwards, don't care if they wear out.
I guess some dudes think wheel graphics are too show offy
>>
>>1845198
that's because of the aesthetic value of a trick being exposed more i.e. more is shown, the contortions of the body are more and/or displayed better

but that all depends on taste of course.

Now I'm looking to get back into it, they've reprinted the same complete I used first time around. It's cheap at £30, should I get one and pick up where I left off, or go for something better?

Stacked a 7.5, 7.75 & 8.0 on top of each other.
7.75 I have was hard to compare because the sides are a bit ovular than a straight popsicle. Very slight difference between 1/2" and 1/4"
>>
>>1846216
Try building a board, completes come with crappy bearings and trucks. The decks can decent, wheels good enough. I'd say swap out the trucks and bearings if you decide to buy it.
>>
>>1846489
if you want to learn fliptricks, it 'd be better to have a wider deck. I 've learned that the hard way.
But don't be paranoid. Learning is half the fun and you 're going to find out more about your skating and broaden your experience. SO do whatever you want.

I've read through the brand sticky and was wondering what you guys thought about pre-completed boards? Or is it really necessary to construct one myself?

I've never skated before but my city is much more skateboard friendly than it is for bikes, plus the portability of a skateboard is really attractive to me. Would mostly be using it for transport of paved surfaces but learning some basic tricks would be cool too.

Any tips on getting my first board are awesome, thanks guys.
>>
>>1846916
Like everyone has said and will always say; it's better to build your own because completes almost always have low quality trucks and bearings.
That's the reason they're able to sell them cheaper.

Alright cool. Am I on the right path with something like this? I tried to follow the sticky for brands. Read that for more of a transport utility a wider deck is better so would 8' be too narrow? Or would a cruiser be a way better idea?

Thanks
>>
>>1847264
i'd suggest getting cheaper trucks. since you're mainly using it for transportation, you don't need titanium trucks. also, bones reds would suffice

Nice thanks for the info, this a bit better? Also so the width/length of the board is fine for what I want to do?
>>
>>1847293
size 8 decks are good if you don't know what to get. more than likely if you do change sizes, you'll probably go up a size. in that case, trucks with an 8 inch axle will be a better choice. bigger wheels will make for a smoother ride, and the kind of mounting hardware doesn't matter
>>
>>1847310
Awesome, thanks a bunch man. I really like the look of that deck so I'm most likely going to go ahead and get that final build you posted.

Are silencer pads no good? Wouldn't the decrease in vibration help new riders?
>>
>>1847327
there are risers and silencers. risers allow for bigger wheels and silencers... i don't they do much. i guess the "decrease in vibration" can help, but you'll do fine without it

>>
>>1847343
one last thing. considering again that you're looking for something to ride around, you may want to think about getting cruiser wheels. you'll be able to ride smoothly, over cracks and such, which may be good if you're a beginner.
even if you don't plan on learning tricks a good ollie is useful.
skateboarding isn't the best method of transportation, but it is fun

Cool video, that's pretty much what I want to do and I would definitely be down to learn to ollie.

These wheels look alright or should I try to go wider?
>>
>>1847359
Also should add that It looks like I'd need to get risers as well with that size
>>
>>1847359
that's good. it's better than street wheels, for what you need. i'd say go for it
>>
>>1847359
I run 55's with no risers, nice and loose. Just throw some wax under the wheels on the board. Or, get risers. Your choice dude.
>>
I want to start with skateboarding, i've already have a penny board and a longboard, want to complete my collection with a normal skate.
I want to learn to move around a pool and some tricks.
I can't pull Ollies probably because the penny has no griptape and the long has no tail.
What should I get?
Additional info: been cruising for a year and some months, can go fast on downhill but not slide. The guys from Braille Skateboarding made me want to try it.
>>
>>1847380
BTW: 19 yo 5'3" feet and 8.4" shoe
>>
>>1847359
If you do go with some risers remember you'll probably need longer hardware. Made that mistake before
>>
>>1847383
this info doesn't matter. go pick out a board, choose trucks to fit the board size, and some wheels. As long as you walk into a shop, tell them what you're after, its easy as piss. Just choose a few decks you like the look of, and try standing on them. whatever feels most comfortable, go with that.

I still can't ollie high enough to reach my parks rails or ledges.
I look like a birb with its wing chopped off.
I even tried a pair of Avenues for the added benefit of having lightweight leaf-springs giving me a boost.
The cushion from impact is a huge bonus though.

Time for some OC royal cringe, found a set of royals I had hiding in storage for ten years after going full retard as a kid, didn't sand the original paint and just rattle canned it or I shouldn't of painted it at all.
Now I'm going to sand blast them raw after finding them yesterday.

On the real, though, you just need to visualize it, which is hard since you've never landed one.

can you pop shuvit? if so, do this:

every night, as you're falling asleep, imagine popping the board up and flicking your front foot to get it spinning. And then imagine watching the board complete the rotation and stomping your feet down onto it. Imagine the way the pavement feels rolling under the board. Imagine the way the impact of the tail feels. The way the grip feels on your shoe. Imagine the arch of the board popping and leveling out.

Once you can imagine it perfectly and clearly, you'll get it.
>>
>>1846216
go for something better.

honestly, just make your own.

a good set up will last you. when i decided to get back into it, i just went into the garage and got on my old Enjoi deck. it's 8 years old, been rained on and ridden through hell and back and it's still good. pops better, actually, than the blank i recently bought to replace it.
>>
>>1847264
For transport, definitely just get a longboard.
for transport and some tricks, this set up but with 54mm wheels would be okay.
>>
>>1856973
Not to longboard bash, but I think they're a bad idea because they limit you to just cruising and anytime you want to go up a curb you have to hop off and pick it up. They do make that up with their speed but with learning to ollie on a regular (or cruiser) board you can essentially move from location to location without having to get off your board. Not to mention having the option to learn tricks if you decide you want to.

Buy some grip tape and keep practicing. Make sure you keep your shoulders parallel with the board at all times. If you're standing still maybe try holding onto a fence or something while practicing the foot movements

For one thing most people in thrasher videos don't belong on 4chan.

But more importantly he was in a Tired video. Which was literally made on the premises of "send us your shit footage". That is nothing to brag off and no amount of "but it was on thrasher" will ever change that.

Seriously what even makes you want to whiteknight him?

I watch game grumps and it's not that obnoxious, the only reason I see the comparison is that they're both big channels. Cunts hate Revive because their brand is just decent, their riders are just simple nothing crazy so are their videos too, it's just a brand revolved around personalities and cunts that are buying their shit just because they watch their videos and have no idea about skating in general. It's pretty much a company made by some dude that couldn't be pro, started a company to entitle himself "pro" with like minded people on the team and they only get known through youtube. Sure they are getting some people into skating which is positive I guess but please do not buy merch just because you want to support them, you buy merch if you like it, don't be that fucking kid that wears a fucking pewdiepie shirt just because you want to support the guy behind it though it's fucking gaudy and you want to show off that you watch him.
Cunt, you should be comparing Revive to Pewdiepie instead of Gamegrumps. I don't hear them screaming "PEWDIEPIE" into the screen.

I'll be honest I'll watch a "you make it we skate it" once in a while but I won't fucking dickride buy buying braille merch, ain't my taste.

i learned to ollie using a setup that had risers. eventually got curious as to what the setup would feel like without risers and took them off. ended up liking it better without them.

i kind of feel like the risers dampened my "groundfeel" too much. not sure if that's a common term, but if boardfeel is feeling your board through your shoes, i guess i'm using groundfeel to describe feeling the surface your riding on through your setup (and even through your shoes to an extent). so, soft wheels/risers/thick cupsoles = low groundfeel and hard wheels/no risers/thin vulcs = higher groundfeel.

in any case i've definitely adopted a less is more approach to skate setups and risers seem to be an unnecessary accessory to me. but hey, i've been seeing some people putting rails back on their boards, so maybe accessories are coming back.
