Ratings are always relevant. It's free exposure for their own WWE Network for a start. Plus if they get shunted down to a lesser network for Raw, then that is less advertising money, a few of their sponsors would drop them too, a large chunk would suddenly vanish from their stock share price as investors start to panic and sell like crazy.
