What gets me is unironically defending his entire stint. He was good in his role in the mid-upper-card in 2003-2004. He was somewhat tolerable in 2005-2006 mostly because he was carried by Jericho, Angle and Edge. But in that same year from 2006-2013 he became intolerable as lolcenawins. 2013-2014 he became somewhat tolerable again e.g. getting pummled by Brock before it became a meme. tbf I do admit he has been a draw elsewhere, but it's one of those things that's tinged by circumstance constantly.
In NJPW he had the literal easiest gimmick in the world, got to be the leader, and wasn't even the most interesting part of it.
In NXT he had a money-printing demon-mode, came in at the right time, and benefited from the general hotness of the brand.
I want him to but I really doubt he'll do well on the MR. His ring-work is good but he has peers who excel him, and his mic-work is a big fat zero.
