Trained for a year and a half in something people spend at least 5 before being ready to start competing at a decent level, ran in like an idiot telegraphing he wanted a slugout but wasn't even quick on the punch, got faked out and taken down by a kid 13 years younger who'd been training jiujitsu for like 8 years and MMA for 5. It was someone on the level of a hobbyist, even if one training with a top team all expenses paid, fighting a guy who's fairly serious about going as far as he can in the sport.

because it was such a mismatch. A lot of MMA - especially the ground work - is muscle memory. You use your whole body at once to shift weight, change momentum, and apply pressure, etc. You can't consciously THINK about where your hips, legs, and arms should be all at the same time, so it's muscle memory. It's like putting a guy with 2 years of guitar lessons in a competition against a guy with 10 years of experience. You WILL see the difference.

Nah most hobbyists with around a year of training would probably do about as well as Punk against Mickey. It's fun to shit on CM Phil but I'm under no delusions that he was particularly awful, anyone with a year of training and no prior experience would've been destroyed just as bad.
