Why does everyone in the martial arts world hate on Aikido so much?
Also, Aikido general

we just had this thread
why don't aikidoka actually break their and show their technique, you see great break downs from other grappling styles and it makes sense, from bjj to wrestling and judo everytime you see people teach it it makes sense how it works

Sorry, I don't come to this board much so I didn't know. I didn't see anything on the catalog.

Check out this youtube series if you want to learn the basics of the inner workings of Aikido techniques. Mike Jones is a great instructor and very much knows his stuff.

I'd like to see this fuckhead try to do those babby limpwrist locks and "throws" against a seasoned BJJ grappler

Aikido is a martial art that is trained without any kind of sparring or pressure testing. It's trained in a way that's unrealistic and not conducive to actually learning how to fight. For this reason, even though the techniques may """"work"""" a practioner of aikido will most likely never pull them off against an actively resisting opponent.
I have a black belt in Krav Maga and Japanese jujitsu, and wrestled and boxed for years but haven't done any of it in a while.
My girlfriend is interested in martial arts and an Aikikai dojo with respectable lineage is within walking distance. Would this be a good way for us to get into martial arts and have a fun hobby together?
>>1593453
No, it's not a combat effective martial srt.

real aikido
well principals done by people outside the art but have perfected timing and reflexes through actually good coaching and drilling .

I didn't ask that, I just asked if it would be something light and easy for a 5' tall 105 lb grill to do and have fun with.

This is a good example of why I dont like arms length stuff, at least in regards to unarmed fighting. Punches are too quick to grab onto, and your first instinct is to go body to body, making that stuff hard to pull off.

When Judo exists why would anyone train aikido if they're looking for a standing grappling style?
(ib4 when wrestling exists why would anyone train judo looking for a standing grappling style)

>(ib4 when wrestling exists why would anyone train judo looking for a standing grappling style)
Well, why would they?
>>1593554
wrestling, judo, BJJ, sambo all compose the big book of grappling, think of each of those styles being a chapter, they say something similar to the other but in a way different way.
For all the cross over they have, there are subtle difference in philosophy, training regiment, expectations, rule set, that morph and evolve similar moves to cope with the prior attributes to give each art their own identity

judo is flashier, easier to find places that teach judo after high school, people like japanese shit, people like olympic shit, people like getting belts and achieving ranks, possible to do into old age

Nice vids. I just watched about 15 of them and I'll have to say I really like this guy and what he's doing.
That being siad this is way shittier than judo or BJJ.

It looks like they were trying to give a hug, but were tsundere about each other.
In other words, it looks kind of gay.
