Over pushed and general bad booking. Fans turning on Roman was 100% on the writing staff and Vince. When at one point the entire point of all wwe programing was just to get him over, they fucked up. All they had to do was scale back the push a bit, maybe have Roman win a midcard belts, and slowly build him over the next few years.
But we got 2 years of nonstop Roman chasing the wwe title and being forced into every angle they could squeeze him into.

The thing was they were trying to push Roman like Bryan. They were trying the whole "underdog" angle with him, and no one was buying it. Made it even worst since Bryan was still wrestling at the time, and many thought he should have gotten that push. The Rumble that Roman won was just the nail in the coffin. That entire Rumble just took a shit on the entire fanbase and Vince knew this, that was why Rock was there to try and deflect the hate they knew Roman would get. Shit didn't work at all. Poor Rock looked confused as fuck, because he hasn't seen that kind of hate since his first year in wwe.

You're right but I don't get this logic of turning him heel to have people cheer him. I think his current standing even with people booing him always has people talk about him. It never made sense to book him as an underdog given how he was the most protected guy from The Shield, even when he was still in The Shield.
Here's this guy that never gets pinned, rarely gets laid out, consistently looks strong, goes over in every feud he's in; but no guys for real he's in trouble, there are so many obstacles in his way, how will he win this time, please feel bad for him and cheer.

They went for an underdog and ended up with Cena 2.0 and at that point people were used to Cena being Cena, but they would not have a new Cena especially after Punk left and Bryan got pushed to the side.

People heard that Vince was going to push him years before, which was confirming the obvious.
He got injured and was out for months, opening new interesting storylines now that Roman is out.

The main issue for me that Reigns doesnt feel in any way genuine. Everything he says is stiff, and obviously very heavily scripted.

Compare him to Austin, or his own relative The Rock. Most of their promos and character work was adlibbed or at least thought of by themselves.

Reigns feels so incredibly corperate. It's like every move and word that comes from him was thought up by a comitee. BELIVE THAT. etc

Anyone than thinks Roman is getting punished is in for a disappointment, they are simply using this to push him as an underdog to get over with everyone. He would main event wrestlemania
