I used to read the dirtsheets during the Monday Night Wars (I'm old). There supposedly was a wrestler who worked his way through the WCW Power Plant (which was absolute hell) and when he got called up and saw that he had to face one of the Steiners, he quit on the spot and fucked off to the Indies.

I scratched my head about it until I watched the two of them have matches with Lash Leroux (red headed jobber at the time) in which they seemed to be having a brotherly competition on which one of them could stretch and abuse him the hardest.

Just found this on Rick from back in the day:

I specifically remember matches with him being extra stiff with the likes of Konnan, Lash LeRoux, Kwee Wee, and Hugh Morrus. He nailed Konnan in one bout with one of the more legit punches I've ever seen in a wrestling ring. Some thought that Rick was just getting his jollies by legit pounding guys. Others thought that bookers were using Rick as a policeman of sorts to exact revenge on wrestlers for various infractions. Lash LeRoux was said to be targeted for punishment due to a big weight gain. Konnan was a target for being too much of a backstage politician. Apart from the in ring stuff, there was some sort of backstage argument between Rick and Chuck Palumbo at I think the second to last ever Nitro/Thunder. Chuck wound up taking a swing at Rick and got stretched for his troubles.
