You realize there's been faces who couldn't get over with the crowd since there's been wrestling. And the term "smark" means almost nothing in 2016 nearly everyone is on the Internet and that's their main way of talking about stuff.

I don't actually hate Roman, but I sure as hell hate what they did to him. Let's go back in time, to when Roman was basically the most popular member of The Shield right before they broke up...

The Shield breaks up, and Ambrose was the one who actually gave a shit and went after Rollins, while Roman just didn't do anything.

Yet somehow it was only Seth and Dean in the show opening MITB match that year, but Roman in the multi-man WORLD TITLE show closing ladder match for no reason. Why did he get a title shot and they didn't? Never explained.

Then it was Ambrose (getting even louder pops than he does now) and Rollins closing Raw every week that Summer while Brock was away with the title, and Roman was busy with Blandy Borton randomly for a minute before getting a hernia.

Then Reigns doesn't show up again until December, only to somehow get the Superstar of the Year Slammy.

Then Roman wins the Rumble in a match that was overall boring and nobody, including Reigns, actually did anything or told any stories, with a majority of the audience throughout WWE that clearly still wanted Bryan at the time.

So they have Roman beat Bryan directly at Fastlane, because that's smart.

Then Ambrose and Bryan get demoted to the IC Title scene, while Roman has to fight Brock, who became the most over guy in the company by destroying Cena at that year's SummerSlam and having our lord and savoir Paul Heyman sing his praises every week.

Rollins bails everyone out at Mania with MITB, and they fucking put Roman in a feud with 90 year old Big Show.

It was then AND ONLY THEN that they put Roman against Bray Wyatt, which was actually a good spot on the card and feud for him.

Think about that.

It was basically a year straight of shit booking, too quick a push, nonsense feuds and terribly written and delivered promos before Roman was actually in a position on the card where he could ACTUALLY start to get over.

By then it was far too late.

Most of them will tell you this themselves.

While history has shown bigger guys do generally draw bigger numbers on top, there's never been a period of time with fans like today who will so openly rebel against booking they disagree with, and its not a small section of the audience.

Being a smark is hip these days. Its not cool to cheer the big guys, even for casual fans.

Its worth them trying something different for awhile and seeing if business picks up.
