I'm 19 and in the UK. I never exercise, and I'm about to graduate with my CS degree.
Give me reasons for and against trying skateboarding.

So fat then?
Web Developer here, so I can relate. Picked up skateboarding a few months ago, wicked addicted.
Pros
>Enjoyable exercise
>Meet people
>Learn to overcome fears
Cons
>Not everywhere has skateparks or smooth concrete
>Risk of injury (Wear your pads, even though most people don't)
>Fat skateboarders exist, so keep a diet too

Lose weight and practice a real sport degenerate
how are you graduating at 19 with a CS degree?
Did you start uni at 16?

I was 17 when I started, but I have a late birthday.

Some great ideas there.
My diet is just fine. I have a fast metabolism, hence the low weight with no exercise. Note: by no exercise, I mean no explicit "I'm going out to exercise" stuff. I walk everywhere, and I walk fast.
We have a skatepark in my town, and plenty of space with smooth concrete. There's also a new skatepark being built, so that's good.

as for things that haven't already been said:
pros
>fun
>something to do
>gets them leg gains
>teaches you how to fall (seriously a universally good skill)
cons
>you will probably develop at least one chronic injury
>gets frustrating at points of low progression
