Is Muay Thai a good discipline for self defense?
>>
>>1400180
no simple as that
only krav maga works for self defense
muay thai is a sport

Muay Thai is a good base.
Krav Maga is usually taught bad in gyms, so Bad Krav Maga is a good supplemental art, since you could train what you learn with friends in a more realistic environment after class.

If you have good Krav Maga, it's a better base than MMA, but you'll be training illegal MMA training techniques so much that it makes you worse at MMA since you'll foul your opponent so much because of your ball kicking reflexes and what not.

I can actually do Krav Maga 2x a week and Muay Thaai 2x a week if thats better than Muay Thai + Boxing

It's not

Modern Muay Thai is already Muay Thai + Boxing.
If you're new to martial arts, just do Muay Thai for a while, maybe 6 months, and then split it with Krav Maga for a few month, or a little longer with Krav is the gym isn't so bad.
You can train Krav Maga seriously, but there's not much point in doing it since self defense is so unlikely anyway. You're just building bad habits of kicking people in the balls during Muay Thai.

Modern Muay Thai is a move set of Kickboxing + Boxing + Karate + Taekwondo.
If you want to specialize in punching, you don't need to go to a Boxing gym to do it, there's already Boxing in the Muay Thai gym.
Since Taekwondo is such a special snowflake, up to a point, it could be used to supplement Muay Thai depending on the Muay Thai gym.

Kicking people in the balls?
What..
>>
>>1402018
The balls are a chin-tier target, and in Krav Maga, there are no rules against targeting the balls.
When you train Krav Maga, you train ball kicks, and when you train ball kicks, you develop ball kick reflexes.
Ball kick reflexes are bad in Muay Thai, because ball kicking is not allowed under Muay Thai rules.

Yes, do muay Thai, and supplement it with something that isn't striking, like judo or bjj. That is more that sufficient for self defense

Gym does BJJ too but my bad back can't handle it I'm afraid
