They kept nWo going too long, first because they couldn't read it was over and then they kept trying to recapture the magic.

Meanwhile, Vince was doing a bunch of weird, new stuff that was like a bizzaro version of his old gimmicks and people started tuning in to it because it wasn't predictable. Eventually people burned out on it but by then WCW was a victim of overspending and a loss of management confidence.
