Looking for suggestions for a new boot. Currently skating Razors SL2s, but want something with a bit more flex on the cuff. USD carbons might be an option but they're fucking expensive for a dude with US13/UK12 feet. Dont want to break the bank on these. anyone?

Can anyone tell me how they started skating and some tips on how I should start? (beggining to end I haven't even bought the skates yet) Also good skates to start out with for rec skating that look appealing (trying to spend right around 200 a little more or less is fine) Thank you!
>>
What's the hardest part of rollerblading?

Telling your parents you're gay.
>>
>>1370259
I first started out with a shitty pair of toy store skates way back. Did the job for little me. 4, 5 years ago picked up aggressive skates but didn't use them as intended until last November. Doing grinds, spins, etc with them now, skating park and street.
Most important thing at first is to get comfortable moving on skates, and to learn how to move correctly (pushing and gliding instead of stepping). That vid in the OP very much covers a lot of the things you'll want to get used to doing.

Honestly I can't give any recommendations for rec skates, Rollerblade brand skates seem like you can't really go wrong though. Hope you come to a decision soon, the sooner you start the better

A bunch of information here. Including Skates.

>>
>>1370259
My advice is to take off the brake and learn to t stop and eventually to powerslide; you need to master stopping properly before anything else. It's like learning to bob and weave in boxing or rolling when landing in parkour. It's absolutely vital.

Start in a parking lot. Try practicing how to get around obstacles at higher speeds. Then, bite the bullet and get good at rolling through pavement soiled by small amounts of gravel. You'll find yourself riding on your heels a lot more.

Then you'll be ready to actually start skating once you can deal with all of that. (Paved) bike trails and camps are great.

You guys are awesome yo thanks! I'll get my first pair of skates with my next pay check I'll be getting the K2 uptowns or the K2 midtowns unsure as to what ones if I could get some advice on that would be helpful and there's a parking lot not to far from here I could use and I sure hope that 18 isn't to old to start. Once again thanks guys! you are the best!
>>
>>1371106
I would get the Midtowns over the Uptowns as a beginner. Save money for better wheels and bearings. Once you get your skating down, go ahead and spent baller money for any skates when you need a new pair.

does anyone from nyc wanna be friends?

i want to learn how to skate aggressive but i don't want to go to the local skatepark alone because i'm 23 and i'll feel dumb falling alone next to some teens on skateboards.
>>
>>1373029
Their are quite a few Bladers in NYC Actually.
https://vimeo.com/168696657
https://vimeo.com/89415120

Go to one of the local skate parks and you will probably meet someone eventually to skate with. I'm sure they will give you some good advice and will skate with you.

I'm 22 and go the skate park alone (not in NYC). It's best if you throw your self conscious away when skating. Hell, I find it kinda hard to even have one since i'm always focusing to improve my skating that I forget some people are even watching.
Besides, if the idea of kids snickering at you frightens or bothers you, then you should probably not skate at all. Because there are hundreds of more things that are actually legit scary in skating, like missing a steep rail completely down a 12 step of stairs, or hitting your rib cage on the quarter coping. This applies to skateboards and other wheeled sports as well.

So if you want start shredding with anything, you will have to have no cares about what others think of you.

Obviously, you are not going get it the first few tries. Just keep trying very now and then.

Also I would advise staying on a flat setup for now. Rockered wheels are more for slalom cone stuff and advance riders.
>>
>>1391611
I bought slalom skates... and I have no idea how to skate. I tried it and on the third try I successfully avoided landing on my face or ass. I think I fucked up.
>>
>>1394298
You got the Rollerblade Twister 80s yeah? You can learn a lot of things with those. They are good for lots of things not just slalom. You just have to put in effort because getting a different pair skates wont magically make you a better skater.

anyone do inline hockey? /sp/ made fun of me when i posted over there and my thread was deleted
>>
>>1403875
Thanks senpai. I have a cousin who is interested in blading, that's why I asked. She said it was intimidating and that her center of gravity (she's peach shaped) might hinder her from doing tricks. The webm helped convince her to buy a pair. Thanks!
>>
>>1403875
man, I respect the guys and gals who skate kaltik flats regularly. bought a pair, the speed on 60s flat was insane but having to get really low on every grind was a bitch. not a fan of deep groove, either. material's way too soft for rough street spots, too. might be why we see LOADS of park edits from kaltik. fished around, i'm definitely not the only one who finds the frames way too soft
>>
>>1404759
what does a peach shape look like exactly?
>>
Hey guys just bought my first pair of skates only one problem the front pads of my feet hurt when I wear them and walk around is this an issue or will I learn to ignore it? (Got the K2 midtowns)
>>
>>1408642
Might be too small? Continue skating them a bit more, see if it persists. You should not be skating with a pressure point that hurts. Just looked the K2 midtowns up, as soon as you can I'd recommend learning to T-stop or some other variation of stopping without brakes. As a a complete beginner having the brake block is... okay, but that thing'll kill you if you start picking up speed and clip it off something. Try learn without it.
>>
>>1408859
Thank you very much I'll keep trying hopefully I can return them if they're to small I don't quite know the return policies of amazon.
>>
Learned 360 off quater pipe today.
I thought I'll never do this.
>>
>>1410663
Grats bro. 360s on quarters are sexy for lines. Had a shot at X grinds today, not going terrible. Pretty close to getting them, I either come short and lock into a soul or go too far and grind an acid soul. trickz either way.

Yeah, find this with jet set radio fanbase too. Everyone who's played it knows vaguely blading but nobody appreciates the attention to detail put in all the grinds, spins, grabs in the game. barely anyone taken up an interest in the sport even after the sales boost from HD release. maybe On a Roll will grab some interest if the final game isnt as clunky shit as it is now

Always found blading to be more black than other extreme sports. just something about it, and fluid movements, spins and landings from guys really good at it. reminds me of shit like capoeira and breakdance.

Blading lines are generally more fluid and pleasant to watch than skateboarding or BMX ones. its what really sets it apart, the greater opportunity for buttery smooth, slick lines. speaking of slick have a pair of Remz Josiah Blee skates on the way, so excited to skate them.

What are yall skating, /ig/?
