I don't see how. Sting was barely an A list star. Totally overshadowed by Goldberg in WCW. Even Samoa Joe got louder pops than Sting did in TNA.

He could have had good matches from the get go though. Instead Vince did the shit angle because muh WCW is the enemy mentality and made him fight his trademarked WCW guy buryer and Sting finally broke down. Why plan it months and years on when you've got one of the world's few renown superstars left? No reason except to get the 4th or 5th final word in on WCW for daring to challenge him 20 years ago.

In fact I'm glad he waited til he was old and broken down, it spared us from seeing him job for a while before the novelty wore off for Vince.
