Both Seth and Dean are being reigned in for Reigns push to succeed. This is obvious seeing as it's been Vince's life goal for over two years now to see his golden boy be received as a hero, and it's still not happening. Sure, he probably should have gotten a transitional reign now based upon his overness with the crowd alone, but it hasn't happened. Mother fucker went on an insane losing streak post Shield break up. Completely dominated by Seth, lost to Wyatt, couldn't capture the IC title from Barrett, it wasn't until he feuded with Harper of all people that he finally got a ppv win.

Either way, WWE clearly values him less than the other two, and he's not good enough to be the top star anyways. I struggle to think of a single non gimmick match he's had that's been memorable or praiseworthy. Considering his background and personal thoughts on wrestling I'm not surprised his status has faltered so much in comparison to his former stable mates.

It's early in the game, but the Styles feud was booked way more coherently. AJ played the "desperate to forge his legacy" card perfectly, and Roman made him look like a real threat for the title without ever losing his air of dominance. When AJ started doing heelish shit it made sense in context and both guys walked away from the feud stronger than they started, which is the way pro-wrestling is supposed to work.
