Now that they've buried AJ Styles -- i was only watching WWE to see him -- I have no qualms with dropping that shitshow again. In the 5 months that I'd been watching WWE regularly for the first time in some years (i watched a bit in 2011 to see the rock, and then a bit in 2013 for punk) it's still as shit, maybe shitter, as it's been since the mid 2000s. it's just completely shit. terrible wrestling, awful storylines, no characters, everyone is just a geek except the top guy. basically just watch some clips from youtube and save yourself some time from watching all that nothing.

the thing about lu, njpw, roh, and such is that none of them are on basic cable so they're much less accessible -- legitimately. but if you really like wrestling then you need to try and support them legitimately. especially a "promotion" like LU. lu is revolutionary; a complete breath of fresh air that wrestling hasn't had since ECW.

Compare Cage's list of moves to Reigns. It's night and day. Cage does a whole variety of slams and bombs and suplexes while Reigns struggles to do a Samoan Drop with consistency.

New Japan has the best wrestling, Lucha Underground has the best booking and WWE has the best roster and production. Ring of Honor is shit, and the rest I haven't watched.

Being able to perform a large number of moves is like being a QB who can run fast. It's handy, but if you don't know what you're doing, you'll still suck total ass (Michael Vick, Vince Young, Tim Tebow, Kordell Stewart, Marcus Mariota so far, etc).

Stone Cold was Giga-Over when all he could really do was punch, kick, Stunner. Because he had charisma (because he wasn't being micromanaged by a pack of particularly dumb failed TV writers and going against type), and he had great ring psychology (because he had been doing it LOT longer than Roman has been).

Roman's moveset could be VERY over if Creative weren't bending over backwards to neuter whatever charisma the man has, and if he knew what to do with it. He's not even THAT bad at thinking his way around a ring, just nothing special. But the booking has done about as bad of a job as realistically possible with getting him over, and it's not helped by having at least a half dozen guys in the company who are some combinations of more athletic, more charismatic, or smarter in the ring than Roman is.

He still did the Figure 4, superplex and other moves well into the Rattlesnake gimmick. He really didn't start slowing down significantly before the tail end of the 90s when his neck started flairing up bad. A moveset is important, because it helps make the match unique.

Ring psychology and charisma are important, but there's a reason why move variety is a staple in judging a match and even the games the WWE make themselves use it as a barometer of how well you're playing a match.


Guys like Benoit and Kane got over while being shit on or never using the mic by having a good moveset and ring psychology.

Roman pretty much lacks all of that, but his lack of moves in my mind is especially egregious because all his matches end the exact same which cause people to check out.

The last person I could say who got over despite not having anything worth looking at move wise was the Ultimate Warrior.
