Eddy was a much more likable personality. Even as a face Benoit was a little too intense to really resonate with casual fans, almost like they expected him to snap at any moment and strangle someone to de--nvrmnd.

Honestly though, I always felt Benoit was buried as champion. He really needed a mouthpiece to help him out, and they never gave him a feud anyone could get behind. Bailing out on him versus Orton so quickly after Summerslam was one of the most shortsighted decisions Vince ever made. They had good chemistry in the ring and WWE could have teased Orton's face turn for months. Instead, Evolution buried Benoit, HHH buried Orton, and Benoit's whole title run looked like a failure.
