So i'm currently running on cheap ass shit $20 53mm wheels.

In the local skateshop, there's some new soft 56mm wheels for $35 (pic related looks like them). Should i get them? I like to cruise around and my city have fucking shit pavement and sidewalks.

I'm also a beginner. Will bigger wheels make learning ollie and shit harder?
>>
>>1171927
Next time please wait until we reach 325 replies, don't be a kook.
>>
>>1173340
Bigger wheel will hardly deter learning any tricks. Only a few millimeters bigger than 53, think about it.
>>
>>1173340
Anything past 57mm is death
>>
>>1172977
Separate. You'll get more help there.
>>1171944
A year. Had heelflips on lock by then was learning inward heels before actually landing a kickflip.
>>1173073
Some newfag who didn't know how valuable all that shit was.
>>
>>1173340
>>1173432
Slightly bigger wheels won't make too much of a difference, but softer wheels can. Reverts and power slides will become trickier especially. Softer wheels can also feel kind of bouncy. Again, as wth most things in skate boarding, it all comes down to personal preference. I myself just moved from small, hard as shit wheels to soft 54mms and I'm not so sure I'm enjoying it. But I think I'm still in the transition stage.

However, if you want to cruise buy a separate cruiser.
>>
>>1171944
I started skating at age 10, and I landed my first kickflip when I was 21. But that was about 2 months after I started skating again for the first time since I was 12. A year later and I still don't have them on lock. They're a bitch of a trick to get consistent.

i'm 21, 5 months skating and i didn't even got the ollie yet. My 14 years old cocksucker cousin landed a flip after 3 months of skating. (Pic related his Ollie, 1 month ago)

There's something wrong with these kids today.

>>1173432
I'll probably get them, Thanks bro.

>>1173448
I'll not exceed that, thanks.

>>1173588
I do both, so i'll upgrade my board (Bearings, truck, and for last, deck) until i have another complete board, for cruising. Thanks man

>i'm 21, 5 months skating and i didn't even got the ollie yet.
22 here, started last November.
Already can ollie and fs 180, don't give up.
>>
>>1173655
I'm about your age. It's been about 3 months for me, I almost have ollies down I believe. Took a fuckload of experimenting but I think I've found what works for me.

Still working on shuvits too, for some reason I can hardly get the board to spin riding forward, but riding fakie I send the board spinning too much. I'll probably land them fakie before riding normally. I'm worried about what I'm doing wrong.
>>
>>1173816
I recently got shuvs down.
I like to have my toes hanging off the edge of the tail and doing a scooping motion. First half the video helped me a lot.
https://youtu.be/tyXwyN_t-is
>>
How can I get better at ollieing into nose manuals on a low box, i can hold them for a long time just tilting into them on flat but everytime I try to ollie up a box into them i always land with four wheels down for like a millisecond, then go into holding a nosemanual. I can't actually land on the front truck only

Any advice? I can noseslide and crooks too, but not nosegrind. Is nollie nosemanual easier?
>>

I know it's cuz I'm high and shit but I always read in these generals:

>I'm [Born somewhere between 1993-1997]
>Used to skate as a kid
>Stopped for ages
>Started again when I was [18-21]

I'm also one of those people too. What does it mean? Why do we all go through this same cycle?

>>1173892
it's a little harder on a low box because when you ollie, you kind of slam down. if you try it on a higher box, then you land into it just right. you need to do a tiny ollie and have your upper body over the nose
>>
>>1173946
Lose interest, motivation, or the availability of time/money. Or we went to pursue other things and eventually came to remember just how fun skateboarding can be. And as much as we probably enjoyed it, for one reason or another (not limited to what I those that I gave), we fell out of it too early.

The sheer magnitude of how long we stopped skating makes it seem that much harder to pick back up. Some people see that and wait even longer to pick up another board. Some people don't even try.
>>
>>1173892
>>1173957
this

the more precise you are with your ollie height, the softer your board will meet with the box. focus on getting just high enough to keep your wheels as close to the surface as possible so you land smoothly; as close as you can from the apex of your ollie.
>>
>>1173898
Get better soon.

>Forgot I was asking for future reference and decide to try a 25-30 degree flat ramp
>Hold it until the bottom until I feel the board start to slip in front of me
>No helmet and not confident calling backwards (only rolled out of forward falls), try to stop with my foot again and have to do a split to avoid grazing my knee again.

Fuck me, my knee and the part below that hurts so badly trying to walk on it after resting for a while. I checked the NHS choices and apparently only need to see a GP if the pain lasts 2 weeks.

Any advice for me? I was thinking of looking at tutoring for skating and/or falling but despite having an unknown future I would like to save up as much money as possible.

Needless to say I wont be skating until my leg gets better and I get some pads and a helmet. I'm so scared of falling backwards now and I know I need to get the image out of my head.

They do? The boards that are just blank but say 'girl' or 'chocolate' only are team decks. Same with the ones that are a graphic but no name (like just the bathroom sign logo or just some random art). The sales of these boards are split between everyone, is my understanding. There's usually a few in each catalog & these are also the ones you'll see in CCS & other large retailers.

started skating last August and just recently started landing 10% of my attempted kickflips. And they are the shittiest kickflips ever - the kind where i kick my foot down more than i flick it out and the board lands before I do. Still, I'm starting to get a feel for how they should be done.
>>
>>1178954
Ayy I'm on the same boat, can't rock fakie yet or drop it but I'm getting the feel of carving the bowl, pumping & shit..

Serious question, can you dive into a pool of water? Its the same thing. All you have to do to avoid hurting yourself diving into a pool of water is making sure your head goes in first right? If you do, then you won't belly flop.

Same with dropping in on a ramp or pool.

If you lean back at all, or hesitate at all, even a little bit, you might slam. But if you lean forward, its impossible to slam. You'll just drop right in. You can only screw yourself by leaning back.

I'm 20 trying to get back into skateboarding again and went to my local shop and asked for a beginner setup. Their cheapest was $180 which I think is too expensive for just starting out. Could anyone help me out with getting a beginner board? Off like skate warehouse or something? I have no idea what parts to get. I am looking to learn tricks like ollies and stuff
>>
>>1184881
Jesus $180 is bit much. You know that on skate warehouse, you can pick out a deck that that fits your fancy and buy it as a complete. The SW picks out the parts for you and the parts you get are pretty solid.
Then when you get better and more knowledgeable about skating, you can pick out your own parts.
Hope that helps lad.
>>
>>1184881

Where do you live? Outside the US $180 is sort of fair. Just choose what you want, can't go wrong really. Make sure you get decent trucks: Indy, thunder, venture, maybe krux or royal. Wheels: spitfire or bones. Outside of that you can't really fuck up.
>>

independent trucks $30-$40
spitfire wheels $20-$30
antihero deck $40-$50
jessup griptape $5-$10 (usually a shop will include grip with the deck tho)

classic setup, support ur local shop

I use the 874 because you can get them at Walmart I think 873 is the hipper looking skinny leg one

One of my friends skates only in the Altamont "Davis" pant, seriously only wears those ever

Volcom pants are pretty good, used to be anyways ... Vans jeans are nice too but the hip is intentionally big to sag down so keep that in mind. .. Levis has their own skate team so supporting them might be good

try bending your knees. unless you shift enough of your weight to lift your wheels off the ground, you will not be falling.

Ayy dudes I fuck up my ollies all the time. I can Ollie up 2 boards but I never land shit cause I always turn about 45 degrees front side. This was a tiny problem when I was learning how to Ollie but when I learned Front side 180s it seems to have really exacerbated the problem. Keeping my shoulders alligned doesn't help, popping straight down doesn't and keeping my front foot straight doesn't.

Would learning BS ollies help me out in keeping the board straight. I recently learned to kickflip and they seem more straight then my ollies.

Actually I really liked the pizza video too, some gnarly rail stuff, especially the Ollie over back and front smiths at the end. The hollow kingpin with solid axle thunders are not much better than the regular all solid thunders, plus the hollow kingpin is welded in and cant be changed. But if you have enough $$ to get the hollow axle + hollow kingpin thunders, those are worth it compared to the all solid thunders for sure (in my opinion)

How to find videos of decent amateur skaters to watch? Preferably where they are over 18.

hollow kingpins aren't welded in, its that the forged baseplate has a more perfect fit around the kingpin. Plus, you don't really need to replace kingpins nowadays, hangars and baseplates tend to give out first.

you 're my man, because I have a question: is it bad for you to skate in shoes one size larger (i.e. with room in front of your toes)?
>>
>>1191794
yes master one day we lowly highschoolers hope to graduate to the standard of footage that you, my skateboarding king, have set for the world to see. No one could've said it better than you lord, it's not about having fun or enjoying the time with your friends, it's about whether or not you can nollie flip.
>>
>>1192972
Not him but I would assume it would affect your pushing. For better or worse I don't know.
>>
>>1193101
I 'm more afraid of the tip of the shoe hitting a rail of the deck, so I would miss all tricks by milimetres and kill myself. Is it reasonable to worry about that? I guess it's feasible to skate on shoes that are slightly larger.
>>
>>1193116
It's probably just personal preference. I don't think it matters if you want to adjust to it, but if it were someone who was already adjusted to one shoe size and went a size larger for whatever reason, that's probably where problems might come in.

But I've only been skating for a few weeks so I wouldn't assume my thoughts are worth much.

It's not going to kill you and it won't have an effect on your ability to do tricks. Just like when you buy new shoes or a new deck you take maybe one or two sessions to get used to the feel and then you're comfortable with your new shoes or new deck. Or bigger shoes. Or smaller shoes.
My point is, stop fretting about your shoes, or your grip, or your wheels, or your fucking nuts and bolts. None of it really has that much of an effect on your skating.
If you can kickflip one setup, you can kickflip any.

>>
>>1194219

All three of those shoes are good so if you can try on each one and see which shape fits your foot best , you cant go wrong with those three , that said the adidas ZX are going to be higher quality its just a fact, better materials and manufacturing because they're a bigger company than sole tech & DC, not to say those brands are bad, they're certainly not and should be supported but its just the truth.

Don't buy canvas skate shoes though they always rip faster its just a fact, they only make them for fashion and for those people who don't want to wear suede for animal reasons. When you get your shoes, take superglue and superglue the seams around the Ollie areas, this will make them last even longer, if you buy the same shoes twice then you know where they will rip and where to superglue

I don't wear vulc shoes anymore because I'm old & (I'm pretty sure) they ruined my feet, I always buy cupsole and I put extra insoles in them I don't give a fuck about boardfeel. But most skaters wear vulcs so, there's that. Just my opinion . the whole reason vulc became popular was because cupsole shoes were really puffy and thick but that was years ago, now they have made cupsoles way thinner because they realize thats what people want, if you go on a review site like weartested or something where they cut the shoes in half you will be surprised at just how thin even cupsole shoes are these days, its just a matter of preference anymore between cup and vulc
>>
>>1194219
Personally, the two best skate shoes Ive had were deklines (any model) for value/money and Lakai for absolute comfort... when it lasts. Maybe it's good to buy a shoe that comes with a good insole, some people I know swap out insoles across shoes.

Well thats a matter of opinion. But I was talking about the execution.

Like a boneless to tail is all well and good, I occasionally do the trick myself. Sure doing it slowly like in the video is all well and good as learning step to get your confidence up. But it isn't any good to watch. I'm saying they should practice it more first and learn to get that foot back on before landing in tail.

Ricta sparks work pretty well for me. They roll fast, and they don't flatspot despite my frequent fat heel standies. They're pretty cheap too

Duct tape or shoe goo depending on where the hole is. But personally, I go to the clearance rack at the vans outlet and get 5 nice pairs of vans for 60$, then I don't have to worry about destroying my shoes. I still try to keep them alive as long as possible though
>>
Hey guys what's the best cheap camera setup? Is fisheye necessary?
>>
>>1194354
I love all black shoes, Emerica doesn't make enough of them. Might look into Lakai
>>
>>1195558
you only invite these retards
>>
>>1194162

the vans 112 has really good reviews, including durability. rippedlaces recommends them. i'm not shilling.
>>
>>1195662
Fisheye for filming lines while you follow the skater and a normal video camera for sitting stationary while filming single tricks, like stair sets etc. from what I've noticed
>>
>>1195662
Define "cheap". I could suggest a Sony A7 and a Rokinon fisheye, but that isn't considered cheap to some.
>>
>>1194162
Just looking at the picture makes me sick, never knew why Koston has a thing for ugly designs.

Is Baki still ongoing?
>>
>>1195662

cheap camera set-up meaning for your phone or do you plan on getting a camera? a lot of lower end DSLRs are good for filming, especially Canon and you can just get a wide angle lens instead of a fisheye. footage becomes more flexible when its less distorted unless you're really going for that look which could cost.

How are hookups decks? I just pulled my board out after like 2 years of not skating and I sorta forgot I needed a new deck when I stopped. Gotta be a memelord where I can y'know?
>>
>>1196098

They're actually very high quality, actually one of the best decks you could buy. they are from a legit woodshop and Klein buys them in small batches and custom shapes. Each board is silk screened rather than heat transferred. The only boards that compare are other small quality focused brands like HOPPs , Iron Claw, etc... Any hookups deck you buy will be far better than any mass produced heat transferred board by for example dwindle or crailtap not that those are 'bad' persay but hookups boards are just better sourced and produced whether you like the anime on it or not
>>
>>1196119

lol no. you have no idea what you're talking about. i have a bunch of hookups decks. while i love the graphics, the deck quality itself is noticeably inferior to ps stix boards. i don't know if it's the wood or the glues but it's not as stiff and solid and snappy and built to last. ps stix are the best imho.

I ride 8.6. All about that foot/calve strength
>>

From which version of hookups? From when hookups was produced by Blitz when they were a part of birdhouse ? hookups decks are FROM shmittstix now...

lieterally, try

No. Just No. You are only allowed to ride Hookups decks if you have never masturbated to a cartoon girl before.

ONLY TO BE RODE IRONICALLY.

Ahh yeah, my city is finally getting a local DIY spot in 10 days.

Hey guys, is it possible to literally skate (almost) all-terrain?

I mean, actually going from your house to the park/market/college without leaving the board in most of the time?

Going down small stairs, going up sidewalks, literally skate the whole path? What are the tricks i need to know that will help with this? I'm already workiing on:

>Manuals (For when the pavement is full of pebbles)
>Ollie
>Firecracker

I bought the unlucky cat deck from the JK Industries and I broke it by not landing bolts ollieing a 5 stair. I only rid it for three days. The board I had right before that was a Bronze deck that lasted me over a month and a half without chipping or loosing too much pop till towards the end. Was my deck a dud?

Reposting I guess

Considering getting a skateboard to help me get around for my job.

While I would love to get a bike, it does not fit well for Car pools/Buses, So ya.

Basically is building my own from parts best?

How much does a decent skate board cost, do I need to spend more than 50 bucks for something decent? only ever bought the cheapest off the shelf stuff.

I only need it for riding, probably going to get something compact so it can fit into my bag/on my bag

Do they make security trucks with a loop for locking it up to something?
>>
>>1196914
I know others will disagree.
But if you are just commuting look into getting a cruiser board with some fat longboard wheels.

If you get the bug and learn to ollie then you can move onto a Popsicle board if you feel like it
>>
>>1196989
Was looking more at the Penny Boards as they're pretty portable and seemingly relatively low cost
>>
>>1196992
>>1196989
Looking at this atm, 25 bucks, wheels are probably shit overall, but it doesn't seem too bad, probably a place to start I guess?

>>
>>1196992
I commuted to uni 5 days a week with a penny board for about a month. I wouldn't recommend them to a beginner nor to someone who wants a cruiser ride in a region with lots of holes in the asphalt (like here in Belgium, Europe). They're pretty unstable, gather high speed and are hard to brake with (can't powerslide, can't taildrag, you can only foot brake). Get a small wooden cruiser: costs you a lot more but I can guarantee you it'll go a long way in comparison to a penny board. Biggest pro a Penny Board has is that it can't get waterlogged.

if all you need is a cruiser then that is a great price
and if you decide you'd like to branch into either longboarding or skating, or realise you aren't that bothered you aren't losing much money

>>1177903
wut? I can imagine myself skating a 8.5 if the only thing I'd do was cruising and bowlridan
