Also crazy how HHH hated Punk for being an "internet darling" riding off the IWC's support, when he's now gone and hired all of the other indie GOATS of his generation and acted like they are his gift to wrestling.

All they had to do was book Punk strong for a year or so, using all of that momentum when he was white hot to build new stars. He didn't even need to stay there, the long WWE-as-midcard reign was unnecessary.

Even if he had wanted to retire the exact same time he ended up doing, those years could have been used SO MUCH BETTER.

It was a known thing, HHH really looked down on him right from the start, it was well publicised even back when Punk first started that they didn't get on.

HHH isn't a mark for roidheads like his father and law. It was a clash of personalities, HHH saw the indies as just nobodies in gym halls that only smarks cared about and didn't like how Punk acted like he was anything but. It goes both ways, Punk had a huge ego, its just funny that Triple H has ended up involved in the centre of WWE's attitudes to the indies COMPLETELY doing a 180.

Punk's ego was his downfall. Batista got his ass beat by Booker T for pretending he was a bigger draw than Shawn Michaels in his prime, and someone should've done the same to CM Punk. The problem is that the locker room was not at all like it once was, where guys would actually do that. Punk probably would've just taken his ball and gone home sooner than.

As a result, he passed up on that golden generation of guys who made it through the indies, led by Punk, Bryan, Joe and Styles. Punk was the one to make the breakthrough, then Bryan, and how huge they became caused WWE to reverse it's fucking weird 00s policy of only using homegrown talent.

Now we have WWE signing all the dregs of that generation and putting them into NXT, this white hot promotion, or straight onto the main roster like Styles, except they are all in their mid 30s hitting 40s now.
