Favorite part of last night's Aztec Warfare?

>actually marking out for Rey Mysterio
>Pentagon ruining Muertes' shit
>Joey Ryan getting fed to Matanza

There was so much going on in that match at once, I feel like I need to watch it again because I know I missed a lot.
>>
>>1100521
There was so much done right I can't even think of one moment I liked more than the rest.

Even the little stuff like Famous B shilling throughout the entire match and marking out when Dragon Azteca Jr. did that crazy dive was fantastic
>>
so pentagon and muertes are busy with eachother. Only puma and dragon azteca can try to take the title right
>>
>>1100521
>>1100537
I loved how they sent Fenix in to get slaughtered, first.
Any other company would have saved their Champ for last or later on, at least. But LU understood that maiming the Champ quick would imbue everyone with hype due to the guarantee of a new Champ.
Would've have Matanza kill a few lesser guys first, honestly. Then have Fenix have his big "stand up" moment. That way it's still early but built to a bit more. But they went for raw impact, and it worked well.
>>
I'm just glad Dario is back full-time. This season has been great, but I think we can all agree it's much better when Dario, one of the more stand out characters on the show, is featured more. Looking forward to the potential war between him, Matanza and Lotus against Muertes and Catrina.
>>
>>1100557
it won't happen. there's no way it could end well, whoever loses will be stripped of all its aura.

of famous b it pretty much looks like a joke or a rich bastard, like daivari last year. not enough to take away a monster heel. If you're suggesting rey mysterio he's too old, he only has to put over young guys.
>>
>>1100580
aztec warfare was packaged of top guys, i loved that , the opposite of the fucking royal rumble. But big enough to take away the monster? Very few of them
>>
>>1100582
>If you're suggesting rey mysterio he's too old, he only has to put over young guys.

On that premise, he should go for Matanza and keep him busy, putting him over hard as fuck by getting destroyed for the next few shows.
Build to a Dragon Azteca retribution arc?
>>
>>1100568
It's the same thing for Johnny Mundo, Alberto Patron and PJ Black. They were so boring in WWE despite being fantastic in the ring; it's just their writers have no desire of doing anything interesting for anyone not involved in the main event title scene. Everybody else is just a generic face or heel.

But in Lucha Underground, you actually mark out for these guys because the writers crank all their character dials to 11. You become huge fans of wrestlers you were bored of in WWE. Rey Mysterio becoming another example. Everybody has their own unique personality, motivations, lore, and arching storyline.

Again, have you never seen Rey in WCW?

Or even Ruthless Aggression WWE?
>>
>>1100472
Rey Mysterio when?
>>
>>1100603
it's not exactly the same, because johnny and del rio have always been booked like shit, but when rey was young he was booked good enough (and obviously he was amazing). After, i don't know, the feud with eddie guerrero or even the relatively recent with cm punk you have to be a mysterio mark for life. So pretty much this >>1100613
>>
>>1100600
that is a pretty good idea. I really hope he'll stay in lucha underground for a long time before a legend return in wwe
>>
>>1100613
Yeah, masked Mysterio was great in mid '90s WCW. Especially his cruiserweight feuds with guys Chris Jericho. I'm talking about recently. I didn't watch Ruthless Aggression at all though; at that point, I got bored and stopped watching wrestling around 2002 and didn't get back into it again until a couple years ago.

>Dragonslayer falling down the stairs while Mack and THEYCALLHIM faced off
>Aerostar returning
>Those bridging germans

When Matanza just starting killing everyone it felt like the air got sucked out of my living room and it was fucking great. Great match.

Only problems for me was the camera work. Too many spots and segments were interrupted by new entries or too many things happening at once.

Also, (and I'm nitpicking now) Argenis and the little guy kind of annoyed me because I knew they weren't going to last having SoH, Angel or Ive instead would've been better.
>>
>>1100564
I really don't think so, man. Think of this match. Muertes had to be surprised, knocked down a flight of stairs, pummeled with a chair in his back and face, frogsplashed AND held down with two men, and that kept him down for exactly the 3 count. He was immediately up an swinging paws at Pentagon.

Matanza's been booked as probably stronger than that, but he doesn't have the magic earthquake stone to raise him from the dead like Muertes. As long as they had a long, uninterrupted match without (or hell, with) too much of the around-the-temple-weapons crap, and pulled a Hogan kick-out at 3.25 (JUST after the third count), it wouldn't ruin anyone's aura.
>>
>>1100564
Nah, I'm with this guy >>1100760

They could easily book them as titans swinging above everyone else's weight class.
Look at Fenix. He beat Muertes, did that strip him of his aura? No, because it was handled properly.
One monster getting slightly out-monster'd by another monster after they tear shit up and rock each-other with earth-shaking blows for half-an-hour wouldn't make anyone look bad.
>>
>>1100472
Also, you're no aware that the "monster" Matanza is of roughly the same size, weight, and athletic ability (that we've seen) as one Human Suplex Machine.

Drop the ball much, WWE?

If there's one thing you should be able to have faith in with Lucha Underground, it's their ability to build people and have them take losses without making them look like total chumps.

And even if they do wind up looking like chumps, it eventually pays off, like with Son of Havoc.
>>
Is Matanza supposed to be a retard or something? When he won the belt he was looking at it like 'wtf is this? Where am I?' Then Dario raises his hand.

How about hearing the fans cheer for Dario Cueto until Matanza started his rampage? Catrina wasn't the worst heel authority figure in wrestling history, but she felt like a cheap replacement and she wasn't even as interesting as she was before. Dario simply is El Jefe.

>>1101694
The difference is that, first of all, Lucha Underground is laser-focused on the story, while WWE doesn't care about the story implications of a lot of its matches. It doesn't mean anything when Big Show, Kane, or whatever other gigantic Raw midcarder does it, because even if they were to win, and they won't, we all know they'd just lay down for someone at Wrestlemania. Lucha Underground says it's building to something big with Matanza. All these little scenes that talk about the Aztec gods and tribes, and about the Cueto family's history. Also, it's the building of a new monster, not trying and failing to restore the monstrous status of a previous monster. Kane has been thoroughly de-monsterized. There's no way to make him a monster again, not after Hunter humped that mannequin. Matanza is still fresh, and while he's so monstrous that there'll be very little place for him once he loses, it does work as a good in-ring introduction to someone who's been built up as exactly this kind of unstoppable force since the first season.

r8 my succinct fantasy booking for LU in the coming weeks/months

>Muertes vs Pentagon ends with Pengaton looking threatening as fuck but not quite being able to put away Mil
>during this time, both Puma and Rey are losing hard to Matanza
>as these two storylines round up, a number one contendership match occurs
>DA Jr Wins
>during the match, Pentagon breaks Puma's arm
>Pentagon vs Puma feud re-ignited to keep those two busy for the remainder of LU
>Azteca Jr fails
>Mil steps up
>Monster-clash showdown
>Mil gets Kil
>FROM THE ASHES
>FENIX
>gets a decisive pinfall against Mil to earn the right to fight Matanza
>goes on to face Matanza in S2's climax
>Mil faces Azteca because he needs to prove himself in some way for ReyRey and Mil is the second best guy to do it against
>don't know whether I'd have Mil lose, because that's potentially quite damaging after a string of defeats, or Azteca lose and continue the underdog seeking to prove himself arc into S3

That's how I'd like the big names to be utilized for the remainder.

You're right. Considering AW2 got LU its biggest rating ever including him was a great move since it showed new viewers what LU is all about. I just hope that Matanza didn't turn them off since they didn't see the build up to his debut.
>>
Who do you want to get the 7 Aztec medallions?
>>
>>1102739
Azteca Jr. He seemed to be really good in the ring and I'd like to see him face off against Puma in kinda of a "young upstart Luchador trying to prove himself against face of the company, most tested performer" feud.
He does kinda look like a geek, though. That big-ass nose and the goatee, like a main character in a stoner comedy.
>>
>>1102319
Fenix shouldn't beat Mil twice in a row.

Mil should literally get killed by Matanza, then get another death Zenkai boost like after Grave Consequences and beat someone at Ultima Lucha 2.

He needs to beat Fenix in their next encounter, then Fenix can finally decisively beat Mil at Ultima Lucha 3 (Which will likely be the LU finale).
>>
>>1102769

Agreed. I think the goatee works against him given the design of the mask but that might be intentional. The mask had been worn for years by someone before him. This is a man literally trying to fill someome's larger shoes.
>>
Just learning that Cobb/Matanza had a WWE tryout and was turned down – despite slaughtering the athletic testings – due to issues with his height.
He seems to be roughly the same size and build as Rusev, though.
A Cobb/Gable tag-team would have been godly.

>>1102877
I get you. Kinda trying to convey that he's a little bit of a goof to get across the message that he's a young upstart?
He used to go by "El Hijo De Rey Misterio" – or, "The Son of Rey Misterio".
So there's clearly a lot of belief in this guy.
>>
>>1102907

For sure. He's a bit lanky, and the mask may have looked better on Rey since storywise, he was meant to take on the mantle. Not Angelico-tier for sure but if you look at it, the color green has a symbolic meaning for Jr.

Yeah but I wish that they didn't have to sacrifice his rivalry/friendship with Puma to do it. That was one of the more interesting aspects of LU to me. I know you're not supposed to see any one superstar as THE main character but Puma and Mundo was as close to a fighting game archetype as you could get. And now It feels like nowadays that Puma has outgrown Mundo, which sucks to see given where they started.

Yeah I know they had that little segment together but it felt like Mundo's been turned into the Dan next to Puma's Ryu. When he should really be more like a Ken. I dunno maybe I am looking into this too hard. Taya is wonderful to see in action though.

Puma isn't even the main character anymore.

You can't really even compare the LU roster to a fighting game anymore because of how much the focus shifts between wrestlers, though the best example would probably be Mortal Kombat (Mundo is a picture perfect Johnny Cage).

Puma was the silent protagonist in Season 1 who's biggest friend and enemy was Mundo, but Dario ended up taking his spot as the central character, then Fenix/Muertes became the defining rivalry, and now we have Matanza who looks like the secret final boss you only unlock after 100% completion with Dragon Azteca Jr. being his future foil and most likely being the last "main protagonist"
>>

And the whole time he was LITERALLY SAYING he was just a man who worked out in the gym to become super duper buff, including when dude busted a bottle between his eyes. He CALLS himself a machine, because that's how driven he is, but he's clear that he's not gifted like some of the others.

Puma needs to have outgrown Mundo. If LU just relied on WWE talent to keep filling its top tier and didn't give newer wrestlers, indie stars, and Mexicans the chance to shine at or near the top of the promotion, it would end up turning into TNA, or more likely just dying because a network nobody actually gets run by a director who can't escape his best friend's shadow can't afford to steal away talent or even snatch up every Wellness Policy violator and all the guys who are mad at Vince the way Panda Energy's "give Bob and Janice's moron daughter a place to play so she doesn't ruin everything else yet" division does. The way they used Mundo to build Puma is how you use the guys your audience knows to put over the guys you want them to know. It just kinda feels like he's stalling now because he's in a feud with Cage, and Cage is the kind of guy Vince would love to have in his company rather than someone that Lucha Underground needs to sell to its audience.

The Puma Mundo rivalry + Ricochet's amazing wrestling skills + him being the first original wrestler (next to Son of Havoc) LU introduced always made me think of him as the main character.

>Mundo's been turned into the Dan next to Puma's Ryu
Yeah, I totally agree. At this point Mundo doesn't have much to do with Puma anymore. I'm curious to see what he'll be doing once the Cage feud ends.

I think they're going to make Dragon Azteca the Ken. They'll probably have Rey saying he was a friend of Konnan and then take Puma under his tutelage to work on taking down the Cuetos. A shame webm related was pretty much the only impressive thing he did in his debut match.

I've been trying to post this for 3 hours. Fuck.

Dragon Azteca - Matanza

He'll be huge, don't worry.

Well back in S1 he didn't have much interaction with Puma and was doing his own thing with his sacrifices and what not. This year he's been getting involved with a lot more but I wouldn't call him a rival to Puma in the way that Mundo was.

>>1103556
Like I said, yeah I know you can't really compare it anymore but Puma and Mundo could have still kept that rivalry between them while still having Mundo up his "it's all about me" attitude. Shit like them fighting together, All Night Long, taking on Mil in a double pin last year, even when all the shit had hit the fan between them Mundo still came through for Puma in the trios. I fucking miss that shit between them. Sure Puma no longer has the focus but that doesn't mean he still can't have a connection to certain people. As you said, Mundo was his biggest friend and enemy.

>>1103656

He's a based as fuck character, but he's still a very limited wrestler. I'd say he's LU's Taker, in that the creation of an excellent persona was both due to excellent writing perfectly apt for the guy, and his fitting portrayal.
I'd still put the other 3 above him as pure talents. Dunno where I'd put Matanza right now, though, feel like I need to see a bit more. But the glimpse we've been given was incredible.

I'm about halfway through S1 one and atm I'm mainly just watching for Son of Havoc/Angelico/Havok's Ex
>>
>>1108582
Aztec Warfare paid off all the storyline stuff that happened up to that moment, but it's true that before that it was mostly just a lot of decent wrestling bookended by a bunch of introduction vignettes, definitely not bad but nothing altogether groundbreaking. Have you seen Grave Consequences yet?
>>
>>1108596
Puma's arc is the best arc so far, but Dario/Matanza could be pretty good
>>
>>1108596
In the middle of the trios tournament.

Chavo's storyline was the only real one in the early eps, a lot of gimmick matches with the midget guy or intergender, a lot of luchadores not really doing that much. It wasn't bad but it was hardly groundbreaking, just good solid wrestling with a weird camera filter.

The writing has definitely gotten better already has the season has gone on. This Kill Bill stuff is hilariously campy but I love it. Apparently there is more stuff like this later? Some of the stuff I heard is coming sounded like a more serious CHIKARA and that just sounds based.
>>
>>1108605

>Catrina wasn't the worst heel authority figure in wrestling history, but she felt like a cheap replacement and she wasn't even as interesting as she was before.

Not necessarily "believable" if you've ever were a football player or amateur wrestler (even the guys who aren't huge are pretty goddamn hard to even get on the ground, let alone hurl through the air, when they're actually competing against you rather than helping you put on a stage production), but it's "action movie" real.

And really, despite what ancient relics of a bygone and largely forgotten age like Cornette will piss and moan about, that's what pro wrestling is, and what it is when it's at its best: An action movie with a good, or at least functional, story.

Like The Rock (the Nick Cage movie, not the wrestler) or The Dark Knight.

WWE is more like Transformers. A lot of obviously fake bullshit with stupid storylines involving indistinguishable characters no one is capable of caring about. But at least there's usually a nice piece of ass walking around.
>>

>>1113623
What the fuck are you talking about? I haven't seen a performance as destructive as his debut since Bork dropped Cena on his head 16 times in a row. His suplexes all look brutal, he can cleanly bridge a German, he has a ton of ring presence, he can standing shooting star press, which is ATHLETICALLY IMPRESSIVE FOR A BIG MAN EVEN IF YOU DO NOT LIKE FLIPPY SHIT, his mask is dope, and he's represented by the best talker on the program. What aspect of this are you not super excited about again, you fucking pleb?
>>
>>1113642
His german suplexes are fine, they aren't anything special, especially after you've seen six in one match. He can flip but he didn't land the standing SSP well, also he's not even that big. He's fairly short.

His debut was a good moment in that he was in the match with a bunch of great wrestlers who could sell like crazy and make him look strong. But it was clear that he's very green, and is just a body to fill the mask for the character. His run may very well be good since their roster is full of people who can make him look good, but if they continue to throw green wrestlers into roles as main event characters, it will become a problem.
>>
>>1113623

The guy playing Matanza is pretty damn good. He's no Vader or Lesnar, but he's one of the best power guys to come out of the indies in a fair while.

>>1113642

Jeff Cobb is a former Olympic wrestler (admittedly one of the least good in that particular olympics). If he couldn't suplex a guy or bridge a german, something would be insanely wrong.

>>
>>1114695
Mascarita is definitely one of my favorites. He's such a trooper.
>>
I want Catrina to lick my neck so bad lads
>>
>>1114906
Do I want to?
>>
>>1113964
>Pentagon Jr., considering he's supposed to be the arch enemy of Fenix but doesn't seem up to his level.

Pentagon and Fenix are real life brothers. So they probably did those early matches partly for family love and partly as an early show of what they can do.

Like others say, Pentagon's story doesn't become interesting until he starts breaking arms.
>>
>>1114976
Yes

I don't watch LU but what happened to Ricochet/Prince Puma was interesting
>>
>>1115342
Fuck off with spoilers. It's bad enough season 2 is half spoiled already.
>>
>>1113964
>considering he's supposed to be the arch enemy of Fenix

Fenix's arch enemy is Mil Muertes
>>
>>1115356
Calm down mexiboo I haven't spoiled anything
>>
>motherfucking Jack Evans just appeared in the Temple

He teams up with Angelico later right? At the moment they are just not mentioning the fact the two are obviously tag partners and wear the exact same gear.
>>
>>1115360
Where I am right now, Fenix and Pentagon have had 4 matches. He's only had 1 match with Muertes right now.
>>
>>1115374
Jack Evans is a heel, Angelico is a face, so unless Team Havoc breaks up and one or the other turns they can't really acknowledge that the two are a team.
>>
>>1108596
>Have you seen Grave Consequences yet?

Fuck, turns out I accidentally skipped that episode, I wondered what happened to Mil. Going back and watching it now once I got to a storyline about him coming back from something I missed happen to him. Guess I can work out who wins this match then.
>>
>>1115506
Fuck, seriously? That sucks. Do they even keep wearing matching ring gear without anyone mentioning that they are obviously partners?
>>
>>1115516
Yeah, I always thought their similar ring gear was weird too. Finding out that they're partners elsewhere makes a lot of sense.
>>
>>1114964
do you think guys ask to do jobs to mil so they can get licked?
>>
>>1115539
There was a funny bit in their match in the Battle of Los Angeles in PWG where the commentator said "They must have felt silly when they saw they both came into work wearing the same clothes" and that's the only reference it got there too, lel.

Both are fucking cheapskates, only having one set of ring attire.
>>
>>1114412
Isnt CM Chicago Made?
>>
>>1115975
Not even.

I don't know how that actually affects his vision. Also, Aerostar might have more experience in that mask than Sin Cara did. The retards in WWE put that new mask on him and shoved him in front of everyone without giving him any time to adjust to it. If there was ONE established wrestler that the WWE should have kept in developmental for a while, it was Sin Cara.
>>
>>1113622

Striker and Vampiro would have to stop swearing.

And I'm pretty sure Catrina screamed "GET THE FUCK OUT" at Vampiro after Pentagon screwed Muertes.
>>
>>1116089
Mistico refused to go to developmental.

Because he's a dipshit.
>>
>>1113622
I think LU being on a small network that otherwise features b-movies and other nonsense adds to the charm. The LU universe itself is pretty grimy and having those cheesy horror flick commercials in between justadd to that.
>>
>>1115516
It's always funny how things are different in kayfabe.

Like how Pentagon and Sexy Star are a Heel tag team in AAA and in LU SS is getting stalked by a mothman and Pentagon is a beloved tweener.

I bet if Octagon ever got in LU he'd be the a guy who keeps trying to convince people Pentagon is evil even though the crowd loves him.
>>
>>1116147
Pentagon IS evil in LU
>>
>>1116157
Compared to the two other monsters on the roster he's the least evil.
>>
>>1116169
He's "cool" evil because he overcomes adversity even if he does it by breaking arms.
>>
>>1116169
He's definitely more evil than Mil.
>>
Anybody know where I can watch the season 1? I watched latest episode out of curiosity and it was hype as shit. I want to watch the full series now.
>>
>>1116089

WWE didn't fuck up Sin Cara, Sin Cara fucked up Sin Cara.
>>
>>1116177
Mil is a zombie possessed by a magic stone doing the bidding of an evil aztec witch. Sure, he himself might be turned good after he breaks from the spell. But still, Muertes was the final boss of evilness for a good long while.

Pentagon is more chaotic evil, making it seem worse but actually he ain't THAT bad. F.i. he lined up with Puma in that match against the disciples pretty quickly. Mil would never do that.

>>
>>1116177
Mil's terrifying imposing evil who wants everything under his control.
Pentagon's not that bad, he's just "break your arm and sacrifice you" evil.
>>
>>1116157

Pentagon is Stone Cold tier, he has transcended labels.
>>
>>1116190
Thanks senpai
>>
>It's a "New episode of LU Day" Episode

Also, gentle reminder for those unaware: Wew's Taima stream now has High Quality streams at time of broadcast.

>>1116193
>Pentagon is Stone Cold tier,

I love me some Pentagon.
But never say this shit again
>>
>>1116196

Pentagon is literally Mexican Stone Cold.
>>
>>1116196
What's the card?
>>
>>1116190
>>1116192
> Pentagon's not that bad

Are we all forgetting about how he once attempted to break a ring announcer's arm and then tried to set a commentator on fire?
>>
>>1116193
The Mack is LU's Stone Cold. That match with Cage pretty much laid that out and he was flipping off dudes left and right before giving them the Stunner during Aztec Warfare II.
>>
>>1116207
He was possessed by big bad Vampiro, brother. He couldn't help it.
>>
>>1116208

Hes just going through the motions.
>>
>>1116207
Admittedly, yes.
He may be worse.

>>1116206
Don't know, LU is the only thing I don't spoil myself on desu

Who do you think is La Roca's favorite luchador?
>>
>>1116571
New bread.
>>
>>1116228

He seems pretty good when he's not cheesing the Stone Cold character.
