Buy over the web

>Gear is expensive as shit where i live
What are you planning to get besides the whole board and the wrenchs?
>>
>>1068157
shipping a whole board from abroad sounds pretty risky, or am I paranoid?
Any recomendation of a decent EU shop with reasonable prices?

Just a complete board, yeah. The wrenches aren't that bad.
>>
Also, any reviews on Blind decks? It a noname brand?
There's plenty of that and Darkstar avalible but im not convinced they're any good.
>>
>>1068215
Blind and Darkstar is under the same Distribution.

Guys. never skated, but now I want to give it a try, since looks like a good hobby and fun (and I really need one, cant fucking stick with alcohol and games). I dont have any friends who have a skate so, where can I get a cheap one yet decent to decide if this thing is for me? I prefer to buy it in a physical store, but I think it will be a bit "ankward" to go on a local only skate shop and ask there, since only "pros" go there?
I live in Europe, w2c a skate? Is 22yo too late? and thanks.
>>
>>1071872
Have you read the OP?
>>
>>1071882
Yes, but I prefer to get an answer from someone.
>>
>>1071886
buy a complete, have fun
>>
>>1071872
If you buy a cheap one it won't roll, pop like shit and will break if you try any trick. Spend like 100-150 euros on a decent complete.

No, 22 years isn't too old, there are 30 year olds who still go to my park.

Go to the shop and just ask questions if you want. Skate shop guys are usually pretty cool.

Where in Europe are you?
>>
>>1071889
Spain, barcelona exactly, looks like its a city pretty friendly with skating. I can spend like 80~90€.

Thanks.

I've lost about 88 lbs in the past 10 months or so. The biggest thing stopping me is the fact everyone in the park is going to be a fair bit younger than I am lol.
>>
>>1072062

It doesn't matter if they're younger or older, what matters is you're having fun.
>>
I'm having problems about the pop shoveit while rolling.

The board rotates ok, but it seems like my body is staying back. That's because everytime my right foot lands on the tail and my left foot on the ground. I'm goofy.

What i'm probably doing wrong? Couldn't record it yet.
>>
>>1071958

How the fuck do i deal with pebbles? Bigger wheels?

My city pavement is fucking dog shit, and there are random pebbles all around. I never had problem with them until today. Was going considerably fast with my 53mm wheels.

It's fucking interesting how the board can decrease its speed from 231231 to 0 in less than 1 second, with a simple shitty rock. There were many people looking but i don't care about them, i just want to kill all the pebbles! HNG
>>
>>1072219
commit, dont be afraid of the board. Jump and land on it
>>
how are the huf classics for skating?
>>
>>1072616
>bigger wheels?

Yeah, once you move into the 60mm +/- rang pebbles aren't shit.

Those little spiky balls that fall from tress are still deathtraps no matter what, though.
>>
>>1072697

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9j3PwRFBJQ
>>
>>1072616
Pebbles are going to effect basically all urathane wheels. They happen, and they are a skaters worse enemy.
>>
>>1072716
thanks. i'm just trying to find a shoe that's really durable. really cant afford to be buying new shoes every few weeks :/
>>
>>1072742
Yea, I feel you. Shit happens. I'd just say get something suede, and I personally feel cupsole last the longest. From time to time just try out different brands, until you find something you feel is durable.
>>
>>1072359
>having skatebuddies as roommates

>>
>>1072616
I don't know, but since I started skating again 3 years ago, I 'm at a point now where I just don't give a fuck and ride over them.

>>1072742

kek, Bam's tribe!

ave you ever been to Love Park?
>>
Do any of you guys ever get weird feelings in your legs from skating? My left thigh has had this weird pulsing getting lately, and both calfs have felt kind of twitchy. I can also feel a vein underneath my knees along my calf on both sides but it's not huge like a varicose vein.
Been skating for 5 years, am I just starting to get old and getting the random aches and pains old people always talk about?
>>
>>1073856
depends on how intense your skating is or got.
I know what you are talking about exactly however and I never stretch, sometimes I get the twitch wake up leg.
>>
>>1072616
Harder and bigger wheels. Learn to plant yourself on your board better by lowering your center of gravity. If you feel a pebble or see one, try counter leaning if you have time.
>>
>>1073855
I actually live like 20 minutes from bam. Also no I never went to love. Ive lived about 30 minutes away from Love my whole life and some how I never went. Pretty much one of the most regrettable things in my life. I wanted to go so bad the weekend the city let every one skate it one last time but I had only started skating again for a couple of weeks. I didnt wanna go all rusty, look like a kook and get vibed by the locals. I really should of went though. Also I really hate driving and being in Philadelphia in general.
>>
>>1073865
also side note. I was actually born in fucking Philadelphia so it makes it even more inexcusable that I never skated love.
>>
>>1073865
>>1073866
from what I know about Love, it's not THAT inexcusable, I think the skateboarder stereotype started there. Ricky Oyola said "you wouldn't go to learn your tricks in Love Park" and I 'm still trying to remember which interview had this guy who said that for the guys in Love Park, if you wanted to switch stance, you had to do a 180, you couldn't just step off the board.
>>
>>1073873
yea lol that was in the 90s im pretty sure. They had a bunch of rules for when you skated love. The 180 thing, not being able to push mongo even switch, etc. Oyola used to give people shit for landing out of grinds fakie and powersliding around to regular for their next trick. Like if you did a tailslide to fakie, turn around and did your next trick regular Oyola would vibe you out. They chilled out on that shit though but by the time that happened you'd get chased out by cops immediately any way. Josh Kalis used to give clothes and shoes to the cops to sort of bribe them away but then the city started cracking down hardcore after awhile.
>>

>>
>>1078713

One time I was skateboarding
Someone came up and asked us to leave
We did

DESU i can feel my heart racing just telling this again
>>
>>1078718
Another time me and my same friends were riding and this dickhead in a van took a turn super close to us and actually was like 2 inches away from hitting us because he clearly thought he was top shit. So we flipped him off and he parked his van and got out saying "hurrr what the fuck are you guys going to do about it" told him he was a pathetic and didn't kick his ass. We roll past his van and his wife and his child in a car seat were sitting in the van while daddy played tough guy to a bunch of 16 year olds at the time.

Seriously pisses me off retelling it, I gotta stop being so nice to dickheads man.

Just literally ignore them. Don't speak to them. Don't look at them. Keep skating and ride a few feet away, skate there, skate back to where you were if they follow you. Maintain your silence and don't make eye contact. Best way to handle it. Let them say or do whatever. Only if its the actual police should you leave.

Well, Im about to buy a pennylike cruiser or a prebuilt skate. Ill spend likely 70€ on one of these but, as Im new on skating Im doubtful about what to choose. Isnt the pennyboards more for casual ride and just have fun? If so, are they ok to learn skate and then go forth and buy a real skate? Or I shall start with a prebuilt skate of 70€ bcs they are different things?

Thanks again.

I can't understand what's that, I guess it's too much problems in my head in my life that I've started to snap out of control and then I just get scared of the next thing, because I wasn't like that back then I guess I was just a pretty normal guy comfortable in life but as the problems started to show up I couldn't cope and as they keep coming up I've changed to bad and I guess that it's getting to me in a way that my actual friends already perceived this and want distance from me(as some of my old friends already did so that's why I want to get out of their way too).

Does anybody here ever go to the gym?
I've been skating for 4 years and have recently gotten to the point in my skating where I notice that on higher popped tricks and trying to roll out low of tricks in vert bowls my legs won't have the strength to pull myself up out of a squat. Should I start lifting to make my inverts better and increase my leg/overall strength?
>>
>>1082183
No. Get a pre built that comes with independent trucks, and wheels that are around 53-55mm and are hard. Make sure the board width is around 8-8.25 inches.
Your wheels and trucks are going to last on your first board so invest in decent ones and cheap out on bearings and a deck. Cheaper bearings are actually better for beginners in my opinion because you don't want to learn going fast as fuck, and your board preference will form as you go.

Was skating in a park with a friend (The park has it's block for skateboarders) when two pigs showed and started discussing with junkies that we're smoking weed some meters ahead. Then they came for us "What the fuck are you two doing?" "Skateboarding." "Get your asses out of here, now."

Probably not, they all do that when they compress, but you might be tightening your trucks too far. What bushing into what trucks? Sometimes you have to take out the bottom washer, or maybe its a bad match?

Best thing to do is put in new bushings, tighten the kingpin nut to where its just starting to resist, which will probably be way too loose. Ride around for a few minutes. Do ollies if you can. Then tighten from there.

Don't want over tighten. Its just going to make them break quicker. If it feels like you need your kingpin nut super-super tight, you need harder bushings instead. You don't want them to be squeezing at all.

Sometimes they just peel because they were clipping the side of the bottom washer, but then eventually got into correct placement, and ripped a bit while moving. When there is a crack on the inside hole is when they're broken for sure and you'll feel it.

Prospective newbie here. I don't have a skate shop here, so I'm ordering online following your advice. I'm wondering if I should buy some spare parts while I'm at it. How quickly do you guys who skate regularly destroy your components and which ones?

I started about 3 years ago. I've replaced my deck 4 or 5 times, bearings once or twice. I upgraded my trucks and wheels once, but it's not like they were broken. The only thing you need to worry about breaking is your deck, but your fist one should last a while if you're just getting started.
The only thing I've built is a box to learn grinds on. The internet has guides for diy stuff.

sorry, jacob contacted me via twitter because i expressed interest in the skateboards when i spoke to him at a convention. he sent me the board in exchange for taking some photos he could use for advertising i assume. i actually received a free book when i bought the henreader deck too. i really dig the way fakku does business- everything ive bought from them has been really nice. i'll keep skating hookups, but i wouldnt mind buying another art deck from fakku. the omocat deck with the monsters is really nice. I'd buy it if it was cheaper.
>>
>>1084151

those fakku boards are more of a collector's item/art piece than something you really skate on anyway, not saying i wouldnt get one if i didnt live with my parents
>>
>>1084141
I'd kill for that Bronze deck. I'd probably kill twice so I could have one for skating and one for hanging.
>>
>>1084170
free stuff is cool, but im happy because the stuff ive bought has been really high quality shit. i own a handful of fakku's books, and they have really nice paper and nice matted slip covers shit.

bottom line: fakku's stuff might be expensive and not handmade, but the original artist gets compensated. kleins designs are often recreations/redraws of anime art, and while i think the way he does business (hand-printed decks, signs boards, does business from his house, and skates) is great, there's something to be said about jacob and fakku paying original artists for their work.

I skate an 8.5 set up just like this because where i live is residential and i can't ride hard wheels. Your board sounds just like mine. I can treflip it, kickflip it, everything. Granted, i learned all that stuff on a more normal deck, but i can still do them all pretty consistent on such a deck.

Having risers with big wheels like that is important, because you will wheelbite when landing even on flat. But since you have risers you are good.

Risers eat away at your pop. So do soft wheels. But the higher your board is off the ground, you are gaining pop as well, due to leverage. So all in all, you'll still have good pop. You'll be working against slightly more weight though.

The biggest key to making flip tricks easier, in terms of setup: ride trucks thinner than your board. Even if its an 8.5, ride 149s. Or even a huge 9+" board, ride 159s rather than 215s. If you trucks are slightly smaller than the board, you will be able to flip it so much easier, regardless of anything else.

Also if you ever go back and watch Video Days, in that video, pretty much all of Mark Gonzales' part was filmed on 9.5" boards on 215s o_O and back in the day when people like Brian Lotti were making up flip tricks, those were gigantic boards as well.

i moved from a semisoft ditch wheel (bones atm, ricta cloud) to a spitfire 99A. after a few weeks of skating a harder wheel, i don't think i can go back- theres just such a weird feeling or disconnection to the road with a soft wheel. don't get me wrong, skating nasty terrain and transportation is better with a soft wheel, but i'll compromise a little comfort for the much improved overall experience of a harder wheel

Oh and at least up until a few years ago, Heath Kirchart (tha gawd) rode gigantic 9.5+ boards as well. Check out how on-point his flatground game is in this video. And we all know how retarded his rail/hubba game is.

I've been skating for two months and i'm starting to try some low level tricks. However it seems like i'm still doing weird on my board, as a guy in the park told me that i should forget the tricks for now and keep cruising a bit more to get more comfortable.

How do i know when i'm comfortably with my board? I can manual for a bit, roll over some distance and all, but maybe there's something missing.
>>

Exactly the same here, save for going to a park and stuff.
>>
>>1084705
Some fucker told me that too, he was all padded up and was watching me try to pump a bowl. He then started to brag about how he learned all these tricks in a couple of weeks so I challenged to a game of skate. I beat him using only shuv and heelflip variations. He landed a tre and a big spin but none of his tricks were consistent. Never saw him at the skatepark after that. I hate douche bass like him. Just let me learn I wasn't in anyone's way.

Are you sure he wasn't just trying to be nice and making small talk, then you turned it into a pissing contest because somebody else said they learned some tricks? You sound like you might have autism.

I just got bounced by the homeless people near my local ledge spot cuz the motherfuckers dogs were barking

no my ankle is still fucked up. This is the dumbest ankle injury ive ever had. Its totally fine when I walk. If I stretch it a llittle inwards and to the left I can feel a little bit of a twinge. As soon as I do something on a skateboard its done. Its been like this for a month. Shit sucks.

well, there is a "10% body" but that comes, either in time or if you want you could train, that's up to you.

had the same thing, give it a little time and aim for hitting spots and generally go to where others skaters congregate.
>>
>tfw want to skate
>tfw too lazy to go to the skate park twenty minutes away

How retarded would I look skating street alone? There's this nice plaza near me with some good ledges I want to sesh. Bear in mind I'm pretty mediocre.
>>
>>1085974
If you care that much about how you look to others people you'll never improve. Just do whatever you want, fall on the ground, and learn. You skate because you want to, not because you want to look cool.
>>
>>1085978
I don't really give a shit about falling, I just don't want to like a chump out skating a ledge all alone. Even if I landed every trick it would still seem weird to me. IDK
>>
>>1085981
Most of my buddies moved out, or stopped skating. I skate alone on a gigantic plaza with tons of shops and people walking around and don't give a shit. Just don't run into people or block their ways. You're not the center of their attention, and neither am I. They don't pay that much attention to you, unless you're running into them or doing tricks right in front of them to " show off ". People have their own stuff to care about, and it's clearly not that guy who skate peacefully not annoying anyone. That's just how I see things. Have fun skating.

Yeah imo you'd look like a chump. Don't bother. Have you thought about getting into WWE instead? It's really great.
