Parkour > Track and Field, Gymnastics, General Climbing

Take note of the blend of skill and strength in this gif.
The traceur jumps off of his lead leg and into the wall up.
He brings the knee of his leg up, in which he uses to step on and jump off of the rocky protrusions on the wall.
He uses the momentum along with his arm on another protrusion to bring himself up, in which he uses to climb up the wall.

I feel like parkour is better for a big city environment? There are a lot of sweet moves for navigating stairs and fences but if you don't like in a built up area I wonder if just running is better.
Parkour's just about tracing an efficient line right? Am I techically doing parkour if I just run straight because there's nothing else to do? Or is that too minimalist for you guys?

Not only is it not, but it is also pretty gay.

>I feel like parkour is better for a big city environment?
You tend to have more options and better utilization of the larger move-set when in larger city environments, like highly populated place with buildings of varying heights and levels close together, generally places with certain architecture.
>Parkour is about the most efficient rout, right?
Yes.
But it's also about doing it with just your body, and adapting to your environment.
>Am I technically doing Parkour if I just run straight because there's nothing else to do?
Yes.
>Or is that too minimalist for you guys?
That depends on the person.
A lot of people can't actually agree on what Parkour actually means, and what parkour actually is.
There is, however, a move stet of Parkour,
because despite varying environments, the move set is useful to have for efficiency.
An under mentioned move set is 1mile to 5 mile running, sprinting, and free climbing.

If ninjutsu is a legit martial arts, then so does Parkour

What does this mean? What are you trying to say here?
>>1044963
But ninjutsu is bullshit made up by a scam artist whereas running away is demonstrably effective

You've got land, right?
Maybe you could buy some wood, or even cut down some trees, and build obstacles.
Personally, I enjoy crafting things, so I wouldn't mind doing this, especially while listening to music.
This is what I'd recommend:
If you're willing to do something, but not willing to go the whole 9 yards, just build yourself at least 3 vault boxes.
You can vault all day.
There are a lot of different ways to vault, and a lot of different combinations of vault flows when you have 3 vault boxes.
Vaulting is so simple, yet so fun.
Think about the setup before you start building.
Why? So you can build your obstacles on the spot and not have to move them.
Vault Boxes (3+, they're easy to make, go wild, if you want, remember that there're other things to build)
Make vault boxes a little higher than the top of your hip.
Make the width about as long as your body.
Make the depth about the length from your palm to your fingertips.
These don't really need a base, but they might dig into the ground a little after a good amount of use.
Platforms (3-5. build more if you've got the resources, time, and or help)
Should be as tall as your own height.
Should have a width of your wingspan.
Should have a depth of about 12-15ft.
These need to be made out of thick wood.
Even if they are made out of thick wood, I'd recommend having some internal support beams holding it up.
You might want to have these elevated on some wood blocks if you ever decide you want to rearrange them.
Wall-Up Obstacles (1-3. The more the merrier)
I'd recommend building a wall - a simple flat wall with diagonal posts going into the ground at the back of the wall will do, or using the wall of a building for these.
Put them up against the wall, and space them out at different distances from each other.
Should be about 8.5-10ft tall.
Only need to be about 5ft wide, and 5ft of depth, if you're putting them up against a wall.
>>1049047
>>1049187
I'd recommend putting the platforms next to the wall-up obstacles.
So you could jump down from at least one of the wall up obstacles to the platforms.
I'd position the platforms relative to each other in a way that I could stride or precision jump from one, long jump to another, and long jump to cat landing to another.
Since the vault boxes are relatively easy to move, I wouldn't worry too much about placement.
I actually like the option of moving the vault boxes so I wouldn't have to make more.
You can also change the distances of the vault boxes to practice stuff on safer heights before you try them on your other obstacles.

So i head some people hate feiyue shoes in the traceurs circles...
I pretty much wear feiyues all the time and would like to know why people don't like them
>>1050018
my understanding is that they were really overrated for a while and the current hate is just a reaction to that. They are fine, just not "The Ideal Footwear for All Traceurs®"
