Is my border collie pure breed?
Do you have AKC papers?
No then it doesn't matter

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume you've got yourself a nice mutt, OP
You need to show us a clearer photo, silly.

papers arent enough.
dont forget to take a water level ruler to your dog's spine, if its hella sloped, you got yourself an official AKC dog.

In other words, how to make sure your dog isn't a real border collie

So what is the true measure of telling if a dog is purebred in your eyes?

What's wrong with the AKC? They literally fund canine health foundations, pick breeding stock on health and longivity, and are dubbed the healthiest club ever.
>wah, a few select breeders are breeding sloped back GSDs!
>even though the AKC standard says the breed needs a straight back it must be their fault!
>better scream like a 12 year old on /an/ and get circle jerked.

Border Collies that are registered in ABCA, or any other registry that breed based on working ability as opposed to just conformation.
AKC dogs are bred for (arbitrary, slowly fluctuating) conformation only. Can you rally call a border collie a sheepdog if it weren't bred to herd sheep?
Many refer to these dogs as "Barbie Collies"

Registries like the AKC put a lot of emphasis on conformation in their breed standards. Sometimes, these standards become so warped as to diminish or completely erase what the dog was originally for, or what made them special. Sometimes, it can also lead to physical deformities that serve no practical purpose.
With working dogs that still have a very useful function (jack russels, Border Collies, German shepherds to name a few), many believe that involvement with the AKC and other conformation registries will pose a threat to the breed as a whole.
