People keep these as pets. There is a couple in my town who take it for a walk fairly regularly. I thought it was a retarded ferret at first so I asked them about it. Turns out it's a palm civet.

Rarest animal that I have personally seen is an avocet.

Though I may have briefly seen a grey fox once. It was dark at like 2 am and some dog-like creature was coming down the sidewalk. I'm not entirely sure it was a fox so I won't count it.
