How come people are so quick to write off animals actions as instinct but never consider human behavior as animal instinct?
>>
>>2472365
Humans are in denial and have to constantly attempt to reassure themselves that they are not like the other animals in any way.
>>
furries?
>>
It's a gradient.
>>
>>2472365

Well, it's because our brains don't come pre-programmed with a lot of instinct outside of breathing and rooting behavior, because we're born earlier in the developmental stage than most other animals. We can't walk for an entire year while most other animals can do it within a few days.

Ahahahaha

>we're born earlier in the developmental stage than most other animals. We can't walk for an entire year while most other animals can do it within a few days.

>he thinks K-selection is unique to man
>>
>>2472365
Man's reason is an extension of his instinct. Applied instinct that allows for a critical thought process to examine the situation for purpose of action in a rational manner for instinctive aims.
Of course many other animals are capable of critical thought also, but to a lesser degree, while others haven't a thought process at all and merely follow mindless compulsions. Its a spectrum between instinct alone and instinct calculated.

There are more species with such long development stages, but they are an extreme minority. Name even 30 species that have 14 years before sexual maturity.

Nice meme.
(In regards to k-selection theory)
The theory was popular in the 1970s and 1980s, when it was used as a heuristic device, but lost importance in the early 1990s, when it was criticized by several empirical studies.
Lastly being "k-selected" does not equate with 14 years of development before sexual maturity. For example, Chimpanzees are "k-selected" but have 6 years before sexual maturity.
I mean, maybe if you understood the theory you are spouting you might be able to precent counter arguments instead of just making a smug gif :)

Greenland sharks take more than a century to reach sexual maturity.

It's easier to control people like animals when they are unaware that it's happening.

Greenland sharks also swim seven thousand miles under the ocean and swim in waters just above freezing. Comparing their slow growth to humans or elephants is fair to compare.

humans do act on instinct often. but we always have the ability to think crtitically, and think about the future. a lot of times I think our conscience gets in the way
>>
>>2472365

Well, because a lot of time, animal behavior is proved to be rather instinctual and "illogical", in the sense they are only following stimuli and not really thinking about it. For instance, beavers will try to build dams on radios that sound like rushing water...Shows they aren't really thinking about the process of building, but just doing what they are programmed to do. Frogs will try to have sex with anything they can get their hands on, if it's the right shape...It's often clear that a lot of animals are not really thinking about their environment or how to logically react, but are simply following an algorithm.

The same might be - is probably - true for humans, but our system appears much more complex.
>>
its pretty well documented, both in secular science and 'philosophy' that people make a decision before using their logic in any way

logic is simply a tool to justify a decision already made

in THAT sense, we are similar to animals, but with logic being used to justify instinctual impulses, we can't subsequently rely on logic to justify choices, such as self-destructive behavior or the misuse of complex resources

if we live by instinct, then we must also accept instinct's judgement, which is that we make a massive amount of bad decisions, and that old, established decisions are almost certainly the correct ones

Because of consistency, only things consistent to the majority of humans can be considered instinct and only sometimes, alot are impressed socially. Generally we don't really care either way, humans and animals both get punished for their actions, instinct or no.

>Self-awareness
>High complex ability to reason (smartest chimp dumber than a 4-6yo human child)
>Drastically higher level of overall intelligence
It really depends on the circumstances. Humans are a more complex animal cognitively with biology greatly influenced by social means, as we are a very social organism.

Even animals can learn from social means, like a dog trained to do tricks or to not urinate outside a weewee-pad. But are infinitely more enslaved to their instincts than humans.

You can control a human mind with flashing colored lights like a fucking insect.
>>
>>2472365
>but never consider human behavior as animal instinct?

First, because we're largely in denial about our own nature as animals.

Second, because it's inconvenient to a lot of religious and political dogma.

Humans are as primordial as any other animal.
Here's some instinct for you
>If someone is about to piss on you, you don't think about it, you just move
>If someone asks you for something and then adds 'because' the odds of you granting it raises to roughly 70%
>If you ask someone a question you can easily get the drop on them "hey whats your name" into a cheap shot while they process
>>
We have instincts. Fight or Flight is one of them.
>>
>>2472502
There are three species of 17 year cicadas and four 13 year cicadas. Ivory Marked Beetle can stay larval for decades. Redbanded Rockfish can take 3-19 years. Whale sharks take 30 years. There are a good amount of turtle species, like the loggerhead, that take quite a while to reach maturity.
While I don't know 30 species, they definitely exist
>>
>>2472365
Special pleading. The entire human world is one great big logical fallacy.
