Euthanizing lizards quickly in a non-messy way is dicey as they are quite resistant/hold out much longer to methods that work very quickly on equivalent sized mammals (like hypoxia).

Cutting off the head is humane. It's quick and easy. It's over in a second. Yes, it's gruesome but if you loved your pets you would put them down as quickly and humanely as possible.

Of course a vet is the best option(unless vet does a heart sticks) but you know how many people come here saying they won't do it because it's not worth it or they can't afford it. I see you're using this phrase to act like you actually know anything. The brain dies very quickly after death seconds, even. But seriously, it's seconds. The body still twitches here and there like when you throw salt on a frog's legs after cutting them off. If you cut off the head of a goat and then immediately throw it's body in boiling water it will kick and thrash, but the goat doesn't feel it.

Even if you were aware of what happened in the few moments you have left, it's better than drawing out your pain and misery. Back in the day sometimes it took multiple chops. That is not human. A sudden lack of blood pressure brings blackouts faster than you think. You know why pilots wear g-suits? It's to keep them from blacking the fuck out when flying in high levels of acceleration force.

Your few seconds of blurry shit that you may see is better than dying 'naturally' of shit like cancer or getting shoved in a freezer. At least in humans anorexia might give you some euphoria from all the head rushes.

This a really boils down to YOU. Not the animal you supposedly care about. You want to feel better about it, and something gruesome that isn't putting it in a box somewhere where you can look away is for you and not that animal. I don't fault people for trying to find such an option, but when they are presented with that's not going to happen(such as can't/won't bring it to a vet or finding out freezing to death is horrible) everyone gets cold feet and rather them die 'naturally'. That's what is fucked up to me. If you can't get something gassed by a vet(again, not a heart stick either) the. The least you can do is end it yourself as quick and painless as you could. Smashing it would be your best bet if you don't own a gun, then decapitation.

It fucking sucks I've done it three times on small animals but it was better than nothing.
