They serve a literal purpose as working dogs, killing off rodents and pole cats.
Owning both a Dachshund and Greyhound sitting on my bed this very moment. I can tell you, you know nothing about the dogs.
They are amazing and very practical.

It's kind of tragic because dachshunds were bred for hunting. Hunting badgers no less, known for being vicious. But then we started breeding them only for an increasingly silly physical appearance. Now they get a bad rap as being ill tempered, but that's because they have the mind of a hunter trapped in a waddling little body and they get treated like lap dogs, which they are not really bred for in personality.

I have a soft spot for those little guys. Congrats on your good breeds.

It's all about work, the first 6 months are the worst with a Dachshund.
This is my 5th one and I'm sure I have it down to a science now.

Zero tolerance for anything and almost borderline cruelty is key.
For instance learning to eat from the food bowl was rough for our littlest girl Heidi Panzermadchenn. You sit the bowl infront of her and tell her to sit and gently move her body to the sitting position. Any time she moves you repeat it and keep moving her to sitting.
Of course by this point she is going crazy because good is right in front of her.
Well she learned how to sit very quickly, but not to stay. So every time I stepped back she would go from sit to rushing to the bowl. So you have to kick her away. It's rather sad and pathetic, but about a week in she learned she is suppose to sit until I say "go".

You have to be tough.
As far as their bad personalities it's a matter of working them, in her case I make her follow me everywhere (I'm disabled and have a lot of free time). I take her outside a lot and have developed her eye targeting abilities by throwing colored balls. She only gets a treat by returning certain colors.
Even still she can be super needy, she steals clothing, and can bully her older brothers.

No fucking quarter at all, the second she does something that is even mildly annoying, you give her a gentle growl (gargle in the throat). She will make eye contact with me. If she repeats it she gets her back leg thumped.

Here we are at 8 months and she is here laying on my arm sweet as any dog could be.

This. Most of those so-called "wolfdogs" are actually just husky/malamute/gsd mixes. Actual hybrids are pretty darn rare. Shelters are dumb if they're just suspecting random wolfy looking pups of having significant wolf content, but people who ditch a pup in the shelter saying it's a wolf are just evil because that means it will probably be put down even if it's obvious it's not a wolf.
