In my experience yes, absolutely.
They have amazingly docile and affectionate temperament for wild animals.

Their diet is tricky and that would be the only obstacle imo, if it isn't exactly balanced opossums will develop Metabolic Bone Disease
Which cripples them permanently.

But if a person was inclined to do the research and be diligent about feeding they are wonderful housemates.

Much like living with nervous cats, they are independent natured, self-clean, & can easily be led to use a litter box
