Fuck these things
>hornets nest behind an electrical box next to my apartment patio
>dark blue motherfuckers all over my shit whenever I try to go outside and water my plants
>asked leasing office if maintenance can take care of it or if I should do it myself
>four weeks and they haven't done anything about it
I think they're waiting it out so the hornets leave during winter. Cheaper than getting someone out here to do it.
With that said, how do I get rid of a hornet's nest that's flattened between a brick wall and an electrical box? Specialized spray or some sort of homemade stuff should work right? At night when they're dormant of course...

fire should work

Looks more like mud wasp nests. They hunt for spiders and stun them with venom, and carry them back to the nest as living food for their larvae. The wasps are usually big and black, but mostly harmless unless you try to fuck with it.

Those nests are full of paralyzed spiders, and mud daubers don't really sting people. Just leave them there.

For ants.
Ok this year it's a particularly bad wasp season in my region because the winter didn't kill enough queens it seems. I got stung more times than I can count because they are aggressive as well.
Wasps are fucking everywhere right now, if I leave the window open for 10 minutes I'll have at least 5 wasps in the room even when there is no food.
Their nests are at their largest right now with potentially thousands of them inside. Is there still a way to destroy them at least somewhat safely? At night it's already getting relatively cool and wasps aren't fast at those temperatures so I thought of trying it at night.

yes I googled a bigger version

Paper wasps at least will learn your face and you can handle them just fine if you give the queen some food when they're starting the nest. I've never been stung by one

I've always wondered how do people get them off after doing this kind of things.
Some smoke? Do they just wait for them to be done eating?
