dumping my birds!
on the upper right is my newest bird that i just got today. she is a white zebra finch, still deciding on what to name her.
on the lower left is my bourke parakeet, she is probably around a month or so old. i got her from a shady dealer when she was 4 weeks old, so i wasn't able to hand feed her and bond with her. i'm working on taming her. her name is mingo.
the bird on the right is tapu. shes a 3 month old kakariki parrot i hand fed from when she was 2 weeks old. she is super playful and curious, definitely more loving than most kakriki.

heres one more of tapu
>spent three years feeding crows outside my house
>fed them on my sidewalk
>then driveway
>then the lower roof part of my house outside my bedroom window
>still skittish as fuck and only two or three would stick around my roof
>one learned to tap at my window
>they fucked off every winter but would come back
>hear owls sometimes
>peregrine falcon moved in
>see crows less
>peregrine dive bombed a robin 2-3 feet in front of where I was sitting on the steps to my back porch
>was metal as fuck, robin fucking exploded
>redtail hawk family moves in
>don't see peregrine anymore
>crows haven't returned once this year
I was working so hard to gain their trust. I hear the soft distant AWES from a raven once in a while in the early mornings.
I miss my old house growing up because we had a shit ton of different songbirds every day in my yard. Woodpeckers(a pair of pileated woodpeckers were my fav), songbirds, cardinals, bluejays, golden finches, a pair of barn owls lived in my shed, saw a great horned owl in my yard a few times, redtail hawks, cooper's hawks, ospreys, turkey vultures, saw bald and golden eagles flying by a bunch, herons, hummingbirds, a pair of sandhill cranes chilled in the neighborhood, turkeys, pheasants, wood ducks, plovers(killdeer?), terns, comorants, a white egret hung out at our park, harrier hawks, etc. If they weren't in my yard they were close by because of the marsh.
Here now I just see european starlings, house sparrows and occasionally a blue jay or a mocking bird besides the now-gone crows and redtail hawks. Sometimes some normal ass seagull.
I hear snowy owls pop up here and in Maine so I'm going to try and go somewhere to see them when they fly down here from farther north.

I also saw my first barn swallow that hang out in the warehouse I work.
On that note.. when was the last time any of you saw a swan? Where the fuck did they all go? I saw a mute swan last year in NJ and it was the first one I've seen in a decade besides a black swan but I don't see them in any ponds or lakes anymore either when they used to be so common. I know they aren't native birds but did they all just die off, we're culled or something?

>Swans
There are still small established populations of mute swans through the northeast US and out west toward Chicago, but they haven't spread much beyond that. It's probably a good thing because they're insanely aggressive and will drive off wild ducks from their nesting areas.
The two types of wild swans in North America are slowly making a comeback though.
Alright boys. Got this birb about 2 weeks ago. He'll get on my finger if I put it just under his chest. Making some progress with the "step up" command, but he won't go out of his way to get on unless I put my finger real close. We practice the step up command for 10 minutes or so at a time.
Other than that, what the fuck do I do next? I'd like to take him out of the cage eventually so he can just hang out with me, but his wings aren't clipped and he jumps away if I try to pet him.
