10 years old. She got pretty weak and sick lately. She can barely see and has tumors in her lungs. Today's the first day she refused to eat.
My parents are talking about putting her to sleep.
Is it bad that I don't want to go to the vet with them and rather stay home when it happens?

Found this wonderful doggo lost on the street about 10 months ago, I'm 99% sure he's an aussie. Can you guys confirm? I'll post another pic. He's really sweet and already knew some tricks, but his prey drive is really huge, so he's on a chain most of the day (we have livestock).

it's not bad that you feel that way. i would recommend that you go along and be with your dog during her last moments. i held my dog in my lap while she was euthanized and even though it was the worst time of my life i'm glad i was there for her.

He was blasting through underbrush all day. Raspberries, alder, etc. It was abrasions that made him look like he was just released from the burn unit! We kept them clean and they healed up after a week.

Thanks for the answer. I was curious because I see this breed pretty rarely. A lot of other hunting breeds have become very common household pets, and most people want them just for companionship rather than their hunting skills. But I've got the vibe this breed's still usually bred/bought for its working purpose. Same thing with the Finnish spitz and hound.

I recently had to put my dog to sleep, similar problems to yours actually. It was the worst day of my life but I am glad I was there to pet my dog during her final moments.

True to breed description. Protective of our home, stubborn, not affectionate. They go through an ugly phase at about 5 months old where their hair is all uneven and strange. They shed in clumps of fur and I brush her daily. She's 1 year old and has bouts of puppy-energy-moments but she's pretty lazy.

Would not recommend for a first time dog owner. But if the breed description matches the temperament you're looking for, then they're very good dogs. She's the most even tempered dog I've ever had, very chill, fluffy like a cloud..

She's my angel. She's just such a good dog. My other dogs are annoying, but she's an angel.

When I first got her from the pound four years ago I put her in the middle of the living room floor.
She didn't move from there for 3 days, so I would just sit with her and pet her.

Sorry for shitting in your thread but I think it's better than making a thread. I'm a lonely man(child) and I'm beginning to consider getting a doggo for companionship, so what is the canon of doggo literature? What's the go-to books on training dogs, dog psychology and such? I would probably be getting some mutt, but what are some intelligent and healthy breeds that wouldn't mind living in an apartment with 1/2 hikes a day? I live in a place with 2 adult cats, they're nice ones but would they fuck a puppy up?

This is my 8 month old German Shepherd. His name is Gladius but everyone calls him Nuggets. I have a couple other dogs I love, but this boy is my Red Fern dog. Although he was an anniversary gift, it took both me and my bf busting our asses to save enough money to buy him. We got him from a state certified, and very reputable breeder as recommended by /an/. Even made sure we dealt with one who only offers working line dogs. He is a great addition to our homestead and really pulls his weight. Also unlike my other dogs he actually enjoys going into stores so everyday we get to go shopping together. Couldn't imagine life without him now.
