I might be a retard for asking, but could he be put on a respirator? I mean, if my lungs gave out they wouldn't just euthanise me. Maybe machines could take over breathing for a while until stem-cell treatments and other options are weighed up.

It's already ridiculously expensive to do those things to a human, I doubt most of us on here could afford to do it for a pet sadly. Op my 15 year old has bladder cancer, it's rough but putting them down when they start to suffer is what needs to be done unless there are medical options you can take to extend the life and quality of life.

Had a cat that was 24 when he had to go, was 2014. Chokes me up when I think about him still but it's because of how much I love him. Little Siamese farm cat from a neighbors black mamma kitty that we friended and eventually birthed a litter on our place. I was about 6 or 7 when that dude was born so you might imagine all it had been through in the span of those years with me. His last year's were spent with me and my (now) wife/girlfriend.

This is our 7 year old mutt who also knew my Siamese friend. She really resembles ur pup there in the stupid face area. She was designated "old" dog and promoted to a window chair in the living room just last month. Never been allowed on the furniture unless she was invited before!! Super thrilled with it.

Point is... Love. Imagine when your 80 and still have a companion without fail. There is never replacing them, but there is always more to love. The things you learned and shared will always be with you and ever expanding. Don't be afraid to show your emotions because that is always our best way to communicate with those little beasts.
